• We can read 6892 as “six thousand, eight
hundred ninety-two”.

• Example:
• We can read 6891 as “six thousand, eight
hundred ninety-one”.
• 6 thousands is six thousand (6000).
• 8 hundreds is eight hundred (800).
• 9 tens is ninety (90).
• 1 ones is one (1).
• How do we read and write whole
numbers?
 The place value chart will help in reading and writing numbers
and in understanding the system of writing numbers.
 A group of three digits in a number is called period.
 In reading numbers up to 10 000 start reading from thousands
period followed by the period’s name, then the units period.
 Numbers can be expressed in standard form, in expanded form,
and in word.
