Inadequate Sports Equipment

BY: RAYMOND S. ENERIO

Physical education according to Bucher and Krotee
(2002) is an educational process that uses physical
activities (by the use of equipment) as a means to
help individual acquire skills, fitness, knowledge and
attitudes that contribute to their optional
development and well-being.

What is inadequate?-lacking the quality or quantity

required; insufficient for a purpose.
Study show that the pupils’ interest and performance
in sports depend largely on the availability of sports
equipment. http://

If the quantities and qualities of equipment in
schools were said to be inadequate it will give
negatively effect the teaching of physical education
in schools.
Effects of the Inadequate Sports Equipment.

activities of a students/youth.
Why? Because it is the means of their physical, mental,
and social development.

2. It is a constraint to teaching and learning in Physical

Education.
3. Poor perfor-mance of the pupils in sports can be
traceable to the inadequate sports equipment in
various schools.
4. Poorly made sports equipment could distract
players from doing their best.
5. Athletes unsafe- It is very hard for them to have
confidence that the equipment they’re wearing is
going to keep them unsafe.
Why is equipment important in sport?

Also called sporting goods, are the tools,

material, apparel, and gear used to compete in a sport
and varies depending on the sports. It is also used as
protective gear or a tool used to help the athletes
play the sport.
CONCLUSION/RECOMMENDATIONS

materials to schools on regular basis.
Tha availability of sports equipment is a crucial
element in development of sports in
school/Community..
Principals should supply sports equipments to the
schools so that any time the government release their
capital grants the money can be deducted at source
as such would enhance the teaching of the physical
education as a subject in the secondary school.
Sport council should be equipped with the standard
sports equipment so that the secondary schools can
purchase basic sports equipment needed to teach the
subject at a reasonable price.
