Compound Sentence With the Same

Subject
Compound Sentence can also be formed with two sentences that have the same subject but express two
complete thoughts.

I took the shoes back to the shop.


I complained about the damage to the shoes
I took the shoes back to the shop and complained about the damage to the shoes

The criminal killed his victim


The criminal threw the corpse into the river
The criminal killed his victim and then threw the corpse into the river

She might walk to work


She might take the bus 
She might either walk to work or take the bus (Dia mungkin saja jalan kaki ke tempat kerja atau naik bus)

He can’t He cannot drive a car


He can’t ride motorbike
He can neither drive a car nor ride motorbike
Your boyfriend called you this morning
Your boyfriend didn't leave a message
Your boyfriend called you this morning but didn't leave a message

Complex Sentence
A complex sentence is a sentence that combines an independent clause and one or
more dependent clauses. An independent clause can stand alone as a sentence, but a
dependent clause even though it has a subject and a verb cannot stand alone.
Examples:

That today is my birthday is not right.


(Bahwa hari ini ulang tahun saya tidak benar.)

I’ll call you when I finish my homework


(Saya akan memanggilmu ketika saya menyelesaikan pekerjaan)

People who do exercise regularly have lower risk of depression.


(Orang-orang yang berolahraga secara teratur memiliki resiko depresi yang lebih
rendah.)
People who do exercise regularly will always be healthy
Some kinds of Clause used to make Complex Sentence
A. Noun Clause called as “that clause”. However, noun clause do not always use
'that'.
The noun clause can be divided into:
1. Noun clause as object
2. Noun Clause as Subject
3. Noun Clause after certain adjectives, i.e adjectives describing feeling: pleased,
sorry, happy, glad, delighted, upset, worried, concerned, surprised, grateful and
adjectives describing degreed of certainty: sure, positive, convinced and doubtful.
4. Noun Clause after a large number of abstract nouns: belief, idea, fact, hope,
promise, suggestion, thought, reason, implication, something/anything.
5. Noun clause with Question Words
6. Noun clause with if/whether (or not)
1. Noun clause as object

In this complex sentence, the verb (predicate) can be followed by a noun clause that has
function of the object in the sentence:
- I don’t know her book
I don’t know that the book belongs to her.
(Aku tidak tahu bahwa buku itu miliknya)
- He is not sure his aunt
He is not sure that the woman is his aunt.
(Dia tidak yakin bahwa wanita itu adalah bibinya)
- I know Megan's marriage
I know that Megan is already married.
(Aku tahu bahwa Megan sudah menikah)
- He can guarantee the perfection of this item
He can guarantee that this item is perfect
2 . Noun clause as Subject
- That you don't love her is obvious.
We can use other construction: It is obvious that you don't love her.

- That she forgets me so quickly is rather a shock.


- That she didn’t understand English made her difficult to get a job.
- That the teacher should know everything is unacceptable.
3. Noun Clause after certain adjectives, i.e adjectives describing feeling: pleased,
sorry, happy, glad, delighted, upset, worried, concerned, surprised, grateful and
adjectives describing degreed of certainty: sure, positive, convinced and doubtful.-

- I am not sure that he supports me


- I am worried that he will not trust me anymore
- We are convinced that he will win the match
- we were surprised that he could solve this problem
4. Noun Clause after a large number of abstract nouns: belief, idea, fact, hope,
promise, suggestion, thought, reason, implication, something/anything.

- the thought that I tricked him made me angry


- the idea that we must attack in that match is brilliant
- The suggestion that we must study hard should be accepted
- The fact that we are weak must be acknowledged

acknowledge = mengakui
5. Noun clause with Question Words (QW)
In this case, two or more sentences are joined by using QW. The function of the QW not as QW
but as conjungtion. Consequently, the sentence located after QW may not be in interrogative
form.
A. Noun clause with Question Words (QW) as Object
- What is her book about?
I am quite certain to what her book is about. (Aku sangat yakin bukunya tentang apa)
- When will she come here?
You must be certain to when she will come here! (kamu harus pastikan kapan dia datang ke sini!)
- How long can you finish your study?
You make sure how long you can finish your studi (kamu harus pastikan berapa lama kamu bisa
menyelesaikan studimu?)
these sentences below are wrong....Why?:
I am quite certain to what is his book about
You must be certain to when will she come here!
You make sure how long can you finish your studi
B . Noun clause with Question Words (QW) as Subject
What I have is very important
What the president said is not true and real
What he sings is very beautiful.
Whoever studies well and can manage his time will get success.
What happened between us must remain a secret

These sentences below are wrong....Why?:


What do you have is very important
What did the president say is not true and real
What does he sing is very beautiful.
6. Noun clause with if/whether (or not)
- Is this her bag? (Yes/No questions)
I wonder whether or not this is her bag. (Aku bertanya-tanya apakah ini tasnya atau tidak)

- Is it yours? (Yes/No questions)


I am not sure whether it is yours. (Aku tidak yaking apakah ini milikmu)

- Are you single? (Yes/No questions)


I do not know if you are single or not. (Aku tidak tahu apakah kamu lajang atau tidak)

Note: sentences that come after if / whether (or not) should not be in the form of an interrogative
sentence.
these sentences below are wrong....Why?:
I wonder whether or not is this her bag
I am not sure whether is it yours
I do not know if are you are single

Make a complex sentence using the six types of noun clause above, at
least 12 sentences.
