Assess(v):  /əˈses/ To judge or decide the amount, 
value, quality, or importance of something: định giá,

 Eg: Exams are not the only means of assessing a


student's ability.
Assume(v): /əˈsjuːm/
To accept something to be true without question or proof
: giả định, đoán chừng

 Eg: We musn’t assume the suspect’s guilt.

Baffle(v): /ˈbæf.əl/
To cause someone to be unable to understand or explain
something: làm trở ngại
 Eg: She was complely baffled by his strange behavior
Contemplate(v):  /ˈkɒn.təm.pleɪt/ /ˈkɑːn.t̬ əm.pleɪt/
To spend time considering a possible future action, or
to consider one particular thing for a long time in a 
serious and quiet way: dự liệu, tiên kiến, suy tưởng
 Eg: I’m comtemplating going abroad for a year
Cynical(adj):  /ˈsɪn.ɪ.kəl/
*Believing that people are only interested in themselves and
are not sincere: hoài nghi
*used to say that someone's feelings or emotions are used
to your own advantage

Eg: *I've always been deeply cynical about men


* He praises my cooking, but that’s just a cynical ploy to
make me cook dinner for him
Deliberate(v): /dɪˈlɪb.ər.ət/
*(often of something bad) intentionally or planned: cố ý
*A deliberate movement, action, or thought is done
carefully without hurrying
 Eg: * We made a deliberate decision to live apart for a while.
*Some women make a deliberate choice to raise a child
Dilemma(n): /daɪˈlem.ə/
A situation in which a difficult choice has to be made
between two different things you could do: tình trạng
khó xử

 Eg: The president is clearly in a
dilemma about/over how to tackle the crisis.
Grasp(v):  /ɡrɑːsp/ /ɡræsp/
To understand something, especially something 
difficult: hiểu

 Eg: I think I managed to grasp the main points of the 


lecture.
Guesswork(n): /ˈɡes.wɜːk/
The process of making a guess when you do not 
know all the facts: sự phỏng đoán

 Eg:The projected sales figures are pure guesswork on 
our part.
Ideology(n):  /ˌaɪ.diˈɒl.ə.dʒi/  /ˌaɪ.diˈɑː.lə.dʒi/
A set of beliefs or principles, especially one on which
a political system, party, or organization is based: hệ
tư tưởng

 Eg: The people are caught between two opposing


 ideologies.
Ingenious(adj):  /ɪnˈdʒiː.ni.əs/
(of a person) very intelligent and skilful, or (of a thing)
skilfully made or planned and involving new ideas and
methods: khéo léo, tinh xảo
 Eg: Johnny is so ingenious - he can make the
most remarkable sculptures from the most ordinary materials.
