Research Methodology

This chapter discusses the research design, locale and respondents of the study,
research instrument, sample and sampling technique, data gathering procedures
and statistical treatment of data.
The Research Design

Research design is the set of methods and procedures used in collecting and analyzing
measures of the variables specified in the research problem (Andrew B. Kirumbi, 2018). The
researchers will use the descriptive qualitative method which is to collect and analyze non
numerical data. It can be used to gather in depth insights into a problem or generate new ideas
for research. The research used in non-statistical method in which shows the factors affecting
the chose academic tracks among Grade 10 students.
Locale and Respondents of the Study

The respondents of the study are the Grade 10 students who were enrolled during the school year of
2020-2021 at Odizee School of Achievers San Antonio, Alicia, Isabela.

The Data Gathering Instrument

SURVEY QUESTIONS. This is designed to gather information from the respondents. Questions
were asked among the respondents to determine the “Factors affecting the decision-making in choosing
the Academic tracks among Grade 10 students of Odizee School of Achievers.
Data Gathering Procedure

ASK FOR APPROVAL – Begin by requesting permission. The researchers will seek permission from the higher
authorities of the school. It is to see whether the research would be approved or not. Before beginning the study, they
double-checked to see if there were any additional corrections or revisions that needed to be made.
MAKE QUESTIONNAIRE – The researchers begin working on their questionnaire after the study is approved,
basing their questions on the theories they had discovered. To accomplish their study’s overall goal, the researchers
used related questions.
DISTRIBUTING – The researchers then circulated the questionnaire to each section of the Grade 10 level after it
was completed. Convenience sampling was used to determine the number of students in each class.
ANALYZED DATA – The questionnaire will be distributed to Grade 10 students, and the researchers will compile
it. The data collected and each questionnaire will be reviewed by the researchers. They will also analyzed the data
and provide thematic analysis.
Statistical Treatment of Data

Thematic approach/analysis will be used to in this survey. Thematic analysis is a method of analyzing
qualitative data. It is usually applied to a set of text, such as interview transcripts. The researcher
closely examines the data to identify common themes – topics, ideas, and patterns of meaning that
come up repeatedly (Caulfield, 2020).
Thematic analysis is an interpretative process, whereby data is systematically searched to identify
patterns within the data in order to provide an illuminating description of the phenomenon.

Sub-theme 1: Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS)

HUMSS strand is designed for those who wonder what is on the other side of the wall. In other words, you are
ready to take on the world and talk to a lot of people. This is for those who are considering taking up journalism,
communication arts, liberal arts, education, and other social science-related courses in college.
“Before you choose the track that is right for you, you must first know what K-12 is for and the difference between
Academic Tracks, Strands, and Specializations. The K-12 Senior High School (SHS) Program is composed of five
different tracks which are Academic, Arts and Design, Sports, Technical and Vocational. These tracks prepare students for
college, universities, or even real workplaces by providing them the necessary skills they must process” (interviewee 11).

Some of the respondents’ choose HUMSS as their preferred academic tracks because it has to do with their future

Sub-theme 2: Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics

STEM is an approach to learning and development that integrates the areas of science, technology, engineering and
mathematics. Through STEM, students develop key skills including: problem solving. Creativity.
“I depend on the environment. Which where things can be much easier” (interviewee 10).
There are respondents who choose’ HUMSS as their preferred academic tracks because it has to do with their
future.

Some of the respondents choose AGM as their preferred academic track because it has
do with their future career.
Theme 2: Right Track

Sub-theme 1: Advanced
Choosing the right strand is about more than just making new friends and learning new stuff about topic like learning to make ice
cream in chemistry. More importantly, it involves envisioning your dream job and career path.
“As far as I might be concerned, the positive factors that would influence my choice to pick the track that I needed is that, I picked the
track base on what I would pursue on college and I think whenever picked different tracks would definitely left behind (interviewee 9). Also,
interviewee 10 added that it’ll help me gain more knowledge’s regarding to my future, where in it will help me become who I wanted to be.”
Some of the respondents answered that it will hard for them if they choose the track that isn’t connected to the dream job they wanted
and choose the track where they are belong. And some of the respondents answered that it will be easy to choose a strand since it is based on
the course they will take in college.

Theme 3: The negative factors that hold to choose another track instead of what you want

Sub-theme 1: Failure
Majority of the respondents are afraid to commit mistakes.
"I've been thinking the what if wouldn't be successful? what if I fail? but nonetheless I trust my self. (Respondent 1)
"I'm uncomfortable and afraid to make mistake. ( Respondent 2) Majority of the respondents are afraid to choose the track they want
because they think they can't do it and their parents expect them not to make mistakes.

Sub-theme 2: Complication
The main complication factors that effect them are family background, socio-economic income, and the general average during high
school and the demanding course during the year. At I said, if you choose what you want it can let our study easier and be happy but
if you don’t choose your destination you want its reciprocal of all the positive things, but it depends on the situation and your state in
life.(Interviewee 8). Also, interviewee 25 added that mahihirapan akong mag adjust sa mga subjects I think? The majority of the
respondents answer by choosing it, I think it will provide me enough information for me to be ready in future.

 SUMMARY,

CONCLUSIONS, AND
RECOMMENDATION
In this chapter presents the summary of the findings in this
research along with the conclusions made by the
proponents and some recommendations for those who want
to conduct a similar study.
Summary

This study was conducted to analyze the factors affecting the decision making in choosing the academic tracks and among grade 10 students of
Odizee School of Achievers. There were a total of 91 respondents of the study from the grade 10 students of Odizee School of Achievers,
Alicia, Isabela. The researcher used a convenience sampling to select the respondents of the study.
The Thematic – comparative analysis type of research was employed in this study in analyzing data and testing of hypothesis. Focus group
discussion (FGD) and a survey questionnaire were used as a method to collect data.
The data gathered were analyzed using open-ended, axial, and selective codings to produce themes.

Conclusions
On the basis of the foregoing findings, the following conclusions were drawn.

1.The factor affecting the decision making in choosing the academic track in terms of Parents ,students, school and future researches all had a
descriptive equivalent of high. This shows that the influence of parents the influence of parents, the school of the students. their future
researchers, and factors that are from their surroundings all play a big role in the student’s choice for their preferred track in senior high school.

Based on the foregoing findings, the following conclusions were drawn:

Among 91 respondents, majority of them experienced challenges and satisfactions in choosing the right track is that it will help make
my studying and picking more harder and complicated in the future days, and cause STEM is difficult according to other senior high school
students. In Making a not right decision is hardest when in choosing the right track you want and they positive factors can affect my decision is
the fact what other people say too you best satisfaction they love to experience in that setting. On the other hand, the greatest challenge they
encountered in choosing their strand is the negative factors that hold me to pick another track is that, I heard many complains about that
particular track and I think that its hard it truly is, perhaps ,they might find it harder than me or I might find it simpler than me. who knows
whether is the most difficult because of the factors that serve as barriers in order for them to receive or impart information. In contrast,
choosing their own strand is helps the respondents to become self-governed. The rules are not alike as in traditional learning. Respondents can
set their own at their convenience.
1. Over all, respondents totally preferred Science, technology, engineering and mathematics (Stem) as a learning setting. Their

option of learning setting still varies upon the situation the society is facing and due to distinct factors.

There was no significant difference in the respondents’ Stem is the major subject as their learning option preferences.

There was no significant difference in the respondents’ this will help me to be prepared for college as their learning option

preferences. There was no significant difference in the respondents’ Lack of sleeps and Radiation, satisfaction and challenges

met.

Recommendations

Based on the findings and the conclusions drawn from this research, the proponents offer these recommendations for the

following.

In view of the findings and conclusions, the following recommendations were proposed regarding the comparative

analysis between the factors affecting the decision making in choosing the academic tracks and among grade 10 students of

Odizee School of Achievers. The choice of a track should be considered with many other factors, not just those from study.
1.1 The choice of track should be considered with many other factors, not just those from the study.

1.2 When choosing a track in senior high school, students should also consider the relationship of their track and the career they want in
life.

1.3 The career plan for students must be made in a continuous manner and should start from an earlier grade level. This is in order to help
the students to thoroughly identify the track suited for them.
