CLIMATE
Kerala
● The climate of Kerala is equable and varies little from
season to season.

● Throughout the year, daily temperatures usually rise


from the low 70s F (low 20s C) into the 80s F (27 to 32
°C).

● The state is directly exposed to the southwest


monsoon, which prevails from July through September,
but it also receives rain from the reverse (northeast)
monsoon, which blows in October and November.

● The state receives an average of 115 inches (300


centimeters) of precipitation each year, with some
slopes receiving more than 200 inches (5,000 mm).
CLIMATE
Himachal Pradesh
● The southern part of the state has hot
summers (March to June), with
temperatures rising above 100 °F (38 °C),
cool and dry winters (October to February),
and a wet season (July to September), with
rains brought by the southwestern monsoon
.

● As elevations increase farther north, the


climate becomes wetter and cooler.

● In the Great Himalayas, winters are bitterly


cold and snowy, with temperatures dropping
below 0 °F (–18 °C).

● Agriculture is important to the economy.
● The emphasis is on growing cash crops
for export, including coffee, tea, betel nut,
cardamom, cashew nut, coconut, and
ginger.
● Kerala accounts for the vast majority of
the rubber and pepper produced in India.
● The principal food crops grown in Kerala
are rice, pulses (legumes), sorghum, and
tapioca.
● The state is a national leader in fish
production.
CROPS
Himachal Pradesh
● Agriculture is an important sector of the
economy, providing a livelihood for
most of the state’s people.
● The major crops include corn (maize),
wheat, rice, pulses (legumes), oilseeds,
apples and other fruits, vegetables,
and ginger.
● Terrace farming is practised mainly in
hilly areas like Himachal Pradesh.
● Its a method of soil conservation to
slow or prevent the rapid surface
runoff. Terraced farming helps prevent
free flow of water.
FOOD
Kerala
● One of the traditional Kerala dishes is
vegetarian and is called the Kerala sadhya,
which is an elaborate banquet prepared for
festivals and ceremonies.

● Seafood is a common part of meals.

● Rice is grown in abundance along with


tapioca. It is the main starch ingredient
used in Kerala's food.

● Kerala also has a variety of breakfast


dishes like idli, dosa, appam, idiyappam,
puttu, and pathiri.
FOOD
Himachal Pradesh
● The day-to-day food of Himachalis is very
similar to that of the rest of north India,
they too have lentil, broth, rice, vegetables
and bread.

● Dham is the traditional food served in


marriages or other functions. Siddu,
Patrode, Cheele and Babru are the
authentic snack dishes of the state.

● Some of the specialities of Himachal


include Manee, Mandra or "Madra",
"Palda", "Redu" Patrode, Chouck, Bhagjery
and chutney of til (sesame seeds).
CLOTHING
Kerala
● The traditional clothing of women in Kerala is the ‘Kerala
Saree’ or the Mundum Neriyathum.

● This is in two pieces, one is draped on the lower part of


the body and then the neriyathu is worn over a blouse.

● Mundu is worn on the lower part of the body and is a


long garment tucked around the waist, it reaches their
ankles.

● Many prefer to wear it above their waist and the higher


caste drape a cloth over their shoulders.
CLOTHING
Himachal Pradesh
● The people of Himachal Pradesh mostly wear
woolens as its best suited to the climate.

● Scarves and shawls are ubiquitous with the women


while the men can be found in various types of Kurtas
and the typical Himachal cap.

● The Rajput males comprise starch stiffened Kurtas


and body-hugging ‘Churidaars’.

● The females of this group apparel themselves little


conventionally costumes like kurtas (shirt-like oriental
blouse), Salwars, Ghaghri (Indian long skirts), choli
(blouses or tops), and Rahide (headscarves decked
with golden periphery).
