ECHYNOCOCOSIS
Introduction: Echyncocosis, is
also called as,hydatid cyst Or hydatidosis,or
echynococalechynococal disease
It is a parasitic disease of tapworms (cestodes) of
echyncocus type
# It is a Zonosis
* Echyncocul species have two hostshosts
1.Definitive host- Dogs and other Cannies
2. Intermediate host- Sheep, Goat, Swine etc..
Classification
Kingdom- Animalia
Phylum- platyhelminthus
Class - cestoda
Sub class- Eucestoda
Order- cyclophyllidea
Family - Taniede
Genus - Echyncocus
Species
1. E.Granulosus( causes cystic and hydatid echyncocosis)
2. E.Multicularis(most virulent, causes-Alveolar echyncocosis)
3.E.Vogeli/oligarthus(causes polycystic echyncocosis)
Etiology
There are three form of echyncocosis!
1. Cystic Echynocosis (CE) -Tropical and sub tropical
regions(Echyncocus granulosus unilocular cyst)
2. Alveolar Echynocosis (AE) - Temparate nothern
hemisphere...( Echynocosis multicularis )
3. Polycystic echyncocosis(PE)-Latin america

B. Echyncocus oliganthus

(Oncosphere) into the duodenum – Liver (Via
portal vein) and Lungs (Via IVC)
Further:
Lungs > spleen > Kidney > Brain
