SOCIOLOGY
JAVARIA QAIS JOIYA
Sociology

 Sociology isthe study of social life, social change, and the social causes
and consequences of human behaviour.

 Sociology is the study of groups and group interactions, societies and

social interactions, from small and personal groups to very large groups.

 A dictionary defines sociology as the systematic study of society and

social interaction.
 Sociology is the study of groups and group interactions, societies and social interactions,
from small and personal groups to very large groups.
 A group of people who live in a defined geographic area, who interact with one another, and
who share a common culture is what sociologists call a society.
 Sociologists study all aspects and levels of society.
 Sociologists working from the micro-level study small groups and individual interactions,
while those using macro-level analysis look at trends among and between large groups and
societies.
 For example, a micro-level study might look at the accepted rules of conversation in various
groups such as among teenagers or business professionals. In contrast, a macro-level analysis
might research the ways that language use has changed over time or in social media outlets.
The term culture refers to the group’s shared
practices, values, and beliefs. Culture encompasses
a group’s way of life, from routine, everyday
interactions to the most important parts of group
members’ lives. It includes everything produced by
a society, including all of the social rules.
What is Sociology?
 Sociology is the study of society.
 It aims to study human behavior in larger societies.
 We are able to spread awareness on certain topics.
 Social media allows us to spread news and awareness internationally and on any level with more than
one person.
 We change our behavior according to what is happening around us. This is what sociology studies.
 “Change is the only constant”
 You are linked with society no matter how antisocial you are.
 No matter how much you are isolated from society, it will always affect you as a person.
 Even if we are isolated, we still think about what society would think or what they would say.
 Rules set by society guide us. Each society has different rules which help the people understand what
is acceptable and what is not.
 Being a part of society is learned over time.

Human Behavior in Society

Humans are social

The desire for sociability is what makes humans arrange
themselves in a society.
The more self- awareness one has, the better a person
they become.
Learning something should make us humble.
Why do we study Sociology?

 To better understand the world and the issues around us.

 It shapes our thoughts and it changes our perspective on how we view society.
 Understanding is the first step to self improvement.
 It makes us aware of how society shapes our character.
 It is useful because it helps us understand society better and why people think the way they
think.
 It helps us understand how a social system works and how different problems can be solved
through communication and cooperation.
 We are able to understand how the society works and how we are influenced by it.
 We can understand our world and its people from a greater perspective..
Summarizing in other words:
Sociology is the systematic study of society and social
interaction. In order to carry out their studies, sociologists
identify cultural patterns and social forces and determine
how they affect individuals and groups. They also
develop ways to apply their findings to the real world.
