AQUATICS

In 19th Century, many different

water sports originated around the
world.
In 20th Century, Water sports as
recreational activities took place as
people’s leisure and disposable
income.
Aquatics
Water has a special characteristics
that provide a unique environment
for activities and good workout.
These characteristics include
buoyancy , hydrostatic pressure
and enhance cooling.
BUOYANCY
It is the upward force of the water
on an object.
This is the reason why boats and
people float on water.
It also gives a weightless feeling,
which makes it easier to move, lift
knees or even jog in water.
HYDROSTATIC PRESSURE
The pressure exerted by the water
at equilibrium due to the force of
gravity.
It is the weight of water pressed
down on the object.
Hydrostatic pressure is exerted on
the body from all sides and this
pressure, combined with buoyancy,
helps keep standing balance in
water.
ENHANCE COOLING
Transfer heat away from the body
much quickly than air given in the
same temperature.
This is the reason we can stay
longer in water and can tolerate
longer workouts without feeling
being overheated.
AQUATIC
ACTIVITIES
Swimming
The earliest record of swimming was
way back to Stone age paintings from
around 7,000 years ago
Requires the use of one’s entire body to
move through the water
Free style
Breast stroke
Backstroke
Butterfly
Canoeing
“canoe” came from the Carib word
“kenu” which means dugout
Involves paddling a canoe with a
single-blaed paddle
Originally made from large tree trunks
The more well-known version of the
canoe was introduced by the North
American Indians where the frame
was built from wooden rib

boat” or “hunter’s boat”

bladed oar and a small boat called kayak

of Arctic North America.
The early kayaks were very
individualize as each kayak was
crafted by the user, basing on the
measurements of their body frame
The oldest existing kayak is
exhibited in North Department of the
State Museum of Ethnology Munich
Snorkeling
The practice of swimming on or
through a body of water while equipped
with a diving mask, a shaped breathing
tube called a snorkel, and usually
swimfins.
It is the oldest aquatic sport record
enjoyed by roman in 1st century.
Scuba diving
Scuba is an acronym for Self-
Contained Underwater Breathing
Apparatus
 Scuba diving is a diving method where
a diver uses a regulator as the breathing
apparatus and tank with compressed air
which enable the diver to breathe
normally underwater.
