 Stationary pumps shall be selected based on the conditions

under which they are to be installed and used.

 Fire pumps shall be dedicated to and listed for fire protection service

 Certified shop test curves showing head capacity and brake horsepower
of the pump shall be furnished by the manufacturer to the purchaser

4.11 Pressure Gauges

 Suction and discharge gauges are used
to measure pressure on both sides of
the fire pump when in operation and
during the regularly scheduled non
flow testing required by NFPA 25. The
gauges should be of sufficient quality
to provide a reasonably accurate
pressure reading, since they are used
for testing purposes on a weekly and
sometimes annual basis. These gauges
should be calibrated each year to
maintain accuracy

4.12 Circulation Relief Valve

 When a centrifugal fire pump is

operating at churn, energy is
continuously imparted to the
water in the impeller, causing the
water to heat. For electrical drive
fire pumps and radiator-cooled
engine–driven fire pumps, a listed
circulation relief valve is needed to
provide cooling water when the
pump is operating at churn.

and negatively impact the pump
