 INTRODUCTION OF C.C. ROAD

•Cement concrete road are generally constructed using plain cement

concreat slabe.
• C.C road serves good & durable wearing surface as well as an effective
and stronge base course.
• The routine and periodic maintenance cost is very low .
• The life cycle cost of C.C. Pavement are much lower then flexible
pavements.
• C.C. Road are generally designed and constucted for 30 years.

 LEVELLING

Before constuction begins, the construction site must be carefully

prepared, This includes preparing the grade or road base.
Frist the site is graded to cut high point and fill low areas to the
desired roadway profile elevations.
Generally, cut material can be used as embankment fill.
 FORMWORK

The forms may be made up steel or timber

The steel forms are of mild steel channel section and their depth is
equal to the thickness of the pavement.
Before using formwork, it should free from all type material like as
dust, cement.
When the form are fixed, they must be checked for their trueness.
The forms are oiled before placing concrete in them.
After 24 hrs, form work displaced next length of road.
 WATERING OF BASE

If the base of the road is dry or construction is taken place during
summer seasons Thean watering is done using the sprinkling process,
after this concrete should be placed.
 MIXING

Mixer is equipment that concrete using distinct amount of cement,

concrete, sand and water.
There are two type of mixer generally used during constuction,
Batch mixer:- used for small road construction.
Continuous mixer:- used for large construction.
 TRANSPORTING & PLACING

Mix concrete transport at site within setting time.

The concrete should be placed over the entire width of bay in
successive batches.
 COMPACTING & FINISHING

Purpose of compaction is that to pull out air from void and make
concrete harden.
Compaction is done by:-
1. Mechanically surface vibrator
2. Manually hand tempers
 After this, Floating, Belting, & Brooming is done as per requirment
for the finishing purpose of concrete pavement to smoothen the
top surface.
 CURING

After completion of the finishing operation, the surface of the

pavement shall be entirely coverd with wet hessian, burlap or jute
mats.
Curing is the process of increasing the hydration of cement, after
setting the concrete curing process done till 14-28 days.
 OPEN OF THE TRAFFIC

Concrete road is opened to traffic when it attains the required

strength or after 28 days of curing.
