12) Conclusion Points
EVOLUTION OF INDUSTRIAL
REVOLUTION
• First Started between 17th and 18th century in Britain.
4) Intellectual Revolution
• Encouraged learning and the search for better and newer ways of doing
things.
5) Agricultural Revolution
• Seed drill
• Crop rotation
• Livestock breeding.
Development Phases From Industry 1.0 To Industry 4.0
STAGES OF INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION
• Industry 4.0 concepts and technologies can be applied across all types
of industrial companies, including discrete and process manufacturing,
as well as oil and gas, mining and other industrial segments.
WHAT TECHNOLOGIES ARE DRIVING INDUSTRY 4.0 ?
1) Internet of Things (IoT)
The Internet of Things (IoT) is a key component of smart factories. Machines on the factory
floor are equipped with sensors that feature an IP address that allows the machines to
connect with other web-enabled devices.
2) Cloud Computing
Smart manufacturing demands connectivity and integration of engineering, supply chain,
production, sales and distribution, and service. Cloud helps make that possible.
3) AI and machine learning
AI and machine learning allow companies to take full advantage of the volume of
information generated not just on the factory floor, but across their business units, and even
from partners and third-party sources.
4) Autonomous Systems
Collaborative robots are designed to fill the gaps between traditional robots and human
workers and open up new areas for automation. These robots are designed to work in ways
similar to humans, with the added ability to monitor and transmit data.
5) Digital Twin
The digital transformation offered by Industry 4.0 has allowed manufacturers to create
digital twins that are virtual replicas of processes, production lines, factories and supply
chains.
6) Cybersecurity
As connectivity increases, the risk of a potential cyberattack grows alongside it. Any
security breach could damage multiple areas of the business, from supply chain to
operations. It’s absolutely critical that companies prepare and protect their information
systems and production lines from cyberthreats.
7) System Integration
Many manufacturing information systems are currently not fully integrated. With
1) Cost efficiency :
Manufacturers consider unplanned downtime and emergency maintenance caused
by sudden failures a major challenge. This can worsen when there are scarce skilled
workers To resolve these issues, companies can install machine learning based
monitoring that can continuously monitor assets and predict maintenance
requirements before a major breakdown occurs on the line.
2) Customer Centric:
In the digital age, the consumer has become much more demanding in terms of levels of
service and product customisation. The impact of this is that the companies need to
become much more responsive how they produce products and services for their
consumers.
3) Agile:
To create an agile business the factories need to invest in flexible production lines. New
technologies need to be deployed such as robots and cobots to achieve this. A Cobot is a
collaborative robot that can help remove the need of completing repetitive tasks that
humans might otherwise do. This can reduce human error and increase the wellbeing of
employees in the factory.
SIGNIFICANT GAIN IN ACCLERATING INDUSTRY
4.0 IN INDUSTRIES
1) Optimisation:
Smart Manufacturing and Smart Factories bring with them optimizations and a growing
ability to self-optimize production leading to nearly zero downtime of your
machinery. Optimization will play a major role in keeping high end equipment maintained
efficiently by having the right resources in the right place at the right time.
2) Customisation:
Communication between the customer and manufacturer will take place directly cutting out
the need for manufacturers to communicate between departments internally or external
providers. Smart Manufacturing allows easily scaling production up or down in relation to
market demand.
3) Reduce Costs:
Implementing smart manufacturing may have a large initial up-front cost, but if setup
correctly can have a positive impact on your bottom line with the implementation of
automation, systems integration, data management, and artificial intelligence all having a
major role in the profitability of your business.
4) Technology:
Technology is progressing exponentially and having an increasing impact on our daily lives.
Technologies are being used today in some capacity. Volvo has been testing autonomous
trucks in a shipping port environment to collect data and view the interactions with the
humans working alongside autonomous vehicles.
5) Better Products and Services:
Whether it be product quality, safety, or customer experiences, Industry 4.0 will drive greater
visibility and throughput for operations, allowing them to continue driving value for
customers to retain business.
12) Greater safety for workers by reducing jobs in dangerous environments because
of the automation production in the Industry 4.0.
TRENDS of
4th Industrial Revolution
that brings huge changes in
today’s society
1) MASS CUSTOMIZATION
2) GLOCALIZATION
3) 3D PRINTING
4) SMART OBJECTS
5) HIGH QUALITY SERVICES
3) Small and Medium enterprises (SMEs), which form the backbone of Indian
manufacturing, can leverage Industry 4.0 technologies to become more agile,
enhance productivity, streamline costs and reduce risks.
4) They evolve to meet modern business needs, the more they will stay relevant
and secure new business on a global scale.
5) Employers will be able to increase the skills of their workforce. New jobs will be
created in the new economy.
2) Cyber security
4) Change Management
5) Technology
Conclusion Points
• Our country requires effective support system consisting of companies, government and
society at large in order to collaborate in developing a systematic and sustainable model to
accelerate to Industry 4.0.
• We need a digital strategy, with education and technical qualification playing a crucial role
in the implementation and acceleration of new industrial revolution.
• Good ICT infrastructure will help the SMEs move into the digital world.
WHAT CAN BE THE NEXT
REVOLUTION
??
INDUSTRY 5.0
• The fifth industrial revolution or industry 5.0 will be focused on the
co-operation between man and machine.
