LONGITITUDE & LATITUDE
 Sikkim is placed between latitudes of 27.5ºN to 20.9ºN

 longitude of 87.59ºE to 88.56ºE.

HEIGHT ABOVE SEA LEVEL


 It’s altitude is of 4700 feet(1400m) above sea level.

 It is one of the highest five airports in India.

SIZE
 Sikkim is strategically located hill state covering an area of
7096sq km(which accounts for 0.2% of total area of India).
 Sikkim is one of the smallest states in India both in terms of
population and area.

 Sikkim, an untouched timeless land whose smiling people offer you


unforgettable friendliness.
 Sikkim a land of extraordinary beauty-soaring mountians ,rivers and
tropical forest .
 Sikkim is a land of abundance, beauty and adventure.
 Sikkim offers the magical feel of an himalalyan fairstyle land.
 It has 300 species of birds and 500 species of butterfly.
 Sikkim –thus is rightfully a paradise on earth.
CLIMATE

 Most of the inhabited region of Sikkim experience temperature climate.


 Temperature seldom exceeding 28ºC(82ºF) in summer and drops down
7ºC(56.2ºF) to 4ºC
 The average annual Temperature for most of Sikkim is around 18ºC(64ºF)
 The highest annual rainfall for the individuals stations may exceed 5000mm.
 Average number of rainy days ranges from 100 at Thangu in north Sikkim to
184 at Gangtok in east Sikkim.
 The Atmosphere of Sikkim is High Relatively(RH).
 The RH normally recorded for ranges between 72-97% during rainy season.
LANDSCAPE

 There are 58 mountains in Sikkim.


 The highest and most prominent mountain is
KANGCHENJUNGA.
 KANGCHENJUNGA is the third largest mountain in the world.
It’s height is 8,586m.
 There are many rivers in Sikkim.

 TEESTA RIVER is a 315km long river that rises in the eastern


Himalayan.
 It flows through the Indian states of Sikkim and west Bengal
through Bangladesh and enters The Bay of Bengal.
NATURAL VEGETATIONS

 The Noble Dendrobium is the official flower of Sikkim, while the


rhododendron is the state tree.
 Orchids, figs, laurel, bananas, sal trees and bamboo grow in the
Himalayan subtropical broadleaf forest of the lower altitudes of
Sikkim.
 Sikkim is the home of around 5000 species of flowering plant, 515
rare orchids, 60 primula species.
 Also 23 Bamboo varieties, 16 conifer species, 362 types of ferns
and over 900 medial species
WILDLIFE

 The dense forest, hills mountains of Sikkim are home to


huge variety of animal species from musk deer and red
panda, to bharal or blue sheep.
 Due to encroachments, and climate change, many of
these are endangered and threatened.
 There are total 5 parks and sanctuaries in Sikkim.

 Khangchendzonga National park (KNP)

 Barsey rhododendron sanctuary

 Fambonglho Wildlife sanctuary.
