 EXPOSITORY WRITING
Exposition is a type of oral or written discourse that is used
to explain, describe, give information or inform. The creator
of an expository text can not assume that the reader or
listener has prior knowledge or prior understanding of the
topic that is being discussed.
It needs to be informative and highlight relevant details for
better understanding
There should be clarity and an expository writer should know

 DESCRIPTIVE WRITING
Descriptive writing as a type of writing that gives a clear
and concise description of everything. It includes places,

descriptive writing is to provide a clear picture of the place,
people or thing in reader’s mind. The writer provides enough
details to evoke the senses. A reader can feel all their
senses working while reading any descriptive writing work.
Descriptive writing is used to draw vivid details in the
reader’s mind. The reader will use sensory details when
he/she reads the text. He can feel the environment of the
text through senses like seeing, hearing, smell, taste, and
touch. This form of writing will help the readers to go into a
world of the writer. You can find descriptive writing in
almost all forms of writing styles. These styles include a
journal, travel writing, biographies, poetry, diary writing,etc.
EXAMPLE:-
The library is my haven. Rows upon rows of
brightly col ored books are crammed onto the
towering bookcases, worlds of words waiting to
be raided. The musty pages waft veils of dust into
the air that tickle my nose and hint at long
forgotten adventures to be unearthed. The dead si
lence makes it the perfect place to immerse
yourself into the world of swash-buckling pirate
that can almost taste the salt in the air drying your
mouth and feel the jostling waves crashing
against the hull of the ship. The only thing that
dares break the silence is the squeaky wheel of
the librarian’s trolley. It’s the only thing that
doesn’t wilt under her harsh glare.
 NARRATIVE WRITING
Narrative writing can be broadly defined as story writing – a
piece of writing characterized by a main character in a
setting who encounters a problem or engages in an
interesting, significant or entertaining activity or experience.
What happens to this main character is called the plot.
The plot follows a beginning, middle, and end sequence. The
middle of the story is the largest, most significant part,
which we call the main event. The main event is really what
the story is all about and involves either a problem to be
solved or a significant life experience for the main
character.
Written forms of narration include most forms of writing:
personal essays, fairy tales, short stories, novels, plays,
screenplays, autobiographies, histories, even news stories
have a narrative.

DESCRIPTIVE WRITING IN
ARCHITECTURE

Writing an architectural description, it is important to focus on the construction, form,

features, and finishes that exist today, rather than a building’s historic appearance. If
current elements of the building are modern alterations to its historic appearance, then
this should be noted.

- The most straightforward type of academic writing is descriptive.

- The aim is to give facts to the reader.
- Descriptive essays do not develop an argument, rather they give a comprehensive
snapshot of a topic.
- Descriptive essays can have one or more purposes: to describe what happened, to pick
out the most important points, to summarize a field of knowledge.
ANALYTICAL WRITING
IN ARCHITECTURE

Architectural analysis is the activity of discovering important system properties using the
system’s architectural model. The analysis of architectural models can have varying goals like
early estimation of system size, complexity and cost. It can include satisfaction of system
requirements-both functional and non-functional, evaluation of opportunities for reusing
existing functionalities etc.

-Analytical writing might apply already existing categories to data, or create new
organizational categories.

-Analytical essays are more challenging than descriptive ones, and usually attract higher
marks.
