Session objectives

• The purpose of this demonstration is to show that it is easy to build use and manage an
Infrastructure As A Service Cloud with Cisco and IBM VersaStack solution. VersaStack
solution is a Cisco Validated Design which brings together compute storage and network in an
integrated system which can be managed as a Cloud. The demonstration focuses on added
value of integrating IBM V7000 Unified with Cisco UCS. The use case context is a Cloud
implemented into a company where three teams are working: development test and
production. It shows that thanks to IBM and Cisco integration users are provided resources
and SLA's depending on their pertaining team. First level bullet.

The IBM Storwize Revolution
Leveraging already owned storage resources
 External Virtualization
> Ingestion of existing storage and data volumes in the new solution

 Easy Tier 3 tiers

> Hybrid Pools NL SAS, SAS, HDD, SSD & Flash Arrays
(10% Flash - x 3 performance)

 In line Compression / Turbo Compression

> Up to x5 storage capacity with performance improvements

 HyperSwap
> High availability for geographically distributed solutions

Easy Flash Optimized Tiering

Flash Arrays IBM Easy Tier delivers…

 Analytics based Automated Storage Tiering
– Constantly analyzes I/O and migrates data to
optimize performance
Less Active Data Active Data  Simple Efficiency
Migrates Down Migrates Up – Set it and forget it …
unlike competitive tiering offerings

 Performance improvements
HDD Arrays

… using as little as 5% flash storage

 Supports two, three tiers

– Flash + 2 disk tiers, Flash + 1 disk tier or 2 disk tiers

Virtualizing External Storage
The V7K/V7KU has the ability to virtualize external storage.
>External Virtualization on the Storwize system puts you outside the boundaries of the
CVD
You are in a supported, but non-CVD state
>There are 3 ways to perform external virtualization
Connect external storage to the VersaStack SAN switches
This will allow you to manage zoning with the UCS Director
Connect the Storwize system to the enterprise SAN
Allows the simple connection to a Brocade or other SAN to expand the storage
behind the VersaStack
ISL the VersaStack SAN switches to the enterprise SAN
