Introduction
Introduction

• After the formation of the state of Pakistan, the people of the two
regions clashed over various issues due to cultural and geographical
differences.

• When Muhammad Ali Jinnah wanted to make Urdu the only state
language of Pakistan, the people of this country refused.

• In 1952 established the status of Bengali language by giving their


lives for the language. When the constitution was drafted in 1956,
Bengali was given the status of state language.
Formation of Bengali Nationalism

• First Bengali Nationalism emerged over the 1905 partition of


Bengal by British.

• After 1947, we founded our state upon religious nationalism.

• East Pakistanis became Bengalis in the 1950s and 1960s, specially


after the language movement.

• The ideology of Bangladeshi Nationalism emerged during the late


1970s and popularized by president Ziaur Rahman.
Economic Autonomy
• Economic inequality is one of the biggest
discriminations that Bengalis have suffered during the
Pakistani rule.

• Despite the large population of East Pakistan budget


was low, most of the development project was done in
West Pakistan and the money earned by East Pakistan
was smuggled to West Pakistan.

• All these inequalities forced the Bengalis to struggle for


economic autonomy. Among these struggles, the six-
point movement was the most significant.

• Bengali nationalism was their main strength.

• Nationalism is formed based on the Bengali language,


history, tradition, culture, and ethnic identity.

• Six points demand was the certificate of the liberation


of Bengali.

• Everyone was indirectly and directly active in the


movement.

• Young people expressed their feelings from the knowledge gained


from books and newspapers.

• The first conflict between the two Pakistan was over language.

• The Bengali language has a thousand your of traditions.

• The power of nationalism has united the Bengalis.

• The six-point proposal raises two issues economic autonomy and


provincial uniqueness.
