 INTRODUCTION
 The Wireless USB is the first the high speed Personal
Wireless Interconnect.
 Wireless USB will build on the success of wired USB, bringing USB
technology into the wireless future.
 Usage will be targeted at PCs and PC peripherals, consumer electronics
and mobile devices.
 To maintain the same usage and architecture as wired USB, the Wireless
USB specification is being defined as a high-speed host-to-device
connection.
 This will enable an easy migration path for today's wired USB solutions.
What is USB?
 Universal Serial Bus (USB) is a
specification to establish
communication between devices
and a host controller.
 USB can connect computer
peripherals such
as mice, keyboards, digital
cameras, printers,
personal media players, flash
drives, Network Adapters, and
external hard drives.
 What is wireless communication?
 In modern usage, the term WIRELESS COMMUNICATION refers to
communication without cables or cords, chiefly using radio frequency
and infrared (i.e., IrDA) waves. E.g., wireless networking of computers.
 Similarly “Wireless Universal serial Bus (W.U.S.B.)” connects devices
like printers, mouse, external hard drives and digital camera to our PC’s
without a single wire and speed and accuracy is still the same as wired
connection.
 This technology operates over a range of around 10 meters(30 feet).

 Also no line of sight connection is required.

 Why go wireless?
 USB is a fast growing technology and now above 80%
of all devices supports USB connectivity to a PC. It
will be a great reduce of number of wires and cost for
paying the cables, if the existing USB technique goes
wireless.

bandwidth wireless radio communication
protocol created by the Wireless USB Promoter
Group.
 Wireless USB supports a mixture of both high speed
and low speed devices and can be operated in multiple
data transfer rates.
 WUSB
 Wireless USB is a logical bus that supports data
exchange between a host device (typically a PC) and
a wide range of simultaneously accessible
peripherals.
The attached peripherals share bandwidth through
a host-scheduled, TDMA-based protocol.
 The bus allows peripherals to be attached, configured,
used, and detached while the host and other
peripherals are in operation.
 WIRELESS USB(WUSB)
 Wireless USB is a short-range, high-bandwidth wireless radio communication

protocol created by the wireless USB promoter group.

 Wireless USB is sometimes abbreviated as "WUSB", although the USB

implementers forum discourages this practice and instead prefers to call the
technology "Certified Wireless USB" to differentiate it from competitors.
 The basic transport mechanism for Wireless USB is the ultra-wide band (UWB)
radio platform.

 Wireless USB is used in game controllers, printers, scanners, digital
cameras, MP3 players, hard disks and flash drives.

 It is always a better option to keep a wireless printer
in an office or a cyber café or at places where
multiple computers can be used. Thus we can avoid the
clumsiness.
 You eliminate the necessity of having your printer be
in the same location as the computer from which you
want to print. You can now place the wireless printer
wherever you wish in your home or office.
 Today's laptops are almost always equiped with Wi-Fi,
making it simple and easy to wirelessly connect and
use your printer.

the Wireless USB promoters group (founded in
february 2004) and soon every product with a USB
connectivity will enable Wireless USB.
ADVANTAGES

 You can connect wirelessly.

network.

 You can connect fairly easily at home, work, multiple

offices (since there is no cable to carry around or leave

 DISADVANTAGES
 Unless the security is not properly setup, both your laptop or desktop

the network you are connecting to cannot be compromised and your data

can be accessed and read by others.

 The hardware is small, it can get damaged, lost or stolen.

 Reception is limited by distance and concrete and natural structures

between you and the antenna (radio waves don't always propagate in a

linear fashion in building, they get blocked by steel or concrete

structures).
 Conclusion
 Wireless USB offers more band width than any other
current wireless technology. Its power management
and security features will enable it to wipe out all the
current wireless personal interconnect and tomorrow
an office or a home computer will be cable free and
inexpensive.
 Ease of installation and usage makes Wireless USB
the most accepted Wireless technology by the
consumers.
 The world is soon about to get one more step closer to
“wirelessness”.
