SIMPLE PAST VS PAST


CONTINUOUS
Use past continuous to describe an action that was in progress at
a specific time in the past.
Use past continuous with simple past to describe an action that
was interrupted by another action.

They were enjoying the morning when the thief stole the briefcase.
Use past continuous for the action in progress. Use when and
simple past for the action that interrupts.
When I woke up this morning, it was snowing.
I was sleeping when you called me.
Use past continuous to focus on the duration of an action. Use
simple past to focus on the completion of an action.
Use past continuous with while to describe action in progress at
the same time in the past.

While I was listening to music, the doorbell rang.

the doorbell rang while I was listening to music.


When My mom called me, I was watching tv.
I was watching tv when My mom called me.
While I was listening to music, the doorbell rang.
the doorbell rang while I was listening to music.
