ADOLF HITLER

Adolf Hitler, by name Der Führer (German: “The

Leader”),
born on April 20, 1889, Braunau am Inn, Austria
died on April 30, 1945, Berlin, Germany), leader
of the Nazi Party (from 1920/21) and chancellor
(Kanzler) and Führer of Germany (1933–45).
He was chancellor from January 30, 1933, and,
after President Paul von Hindenburg’s death,
assumed the twin titles of Führer and chancellor
(August 2, 1934).
THE HOLOCAUST

The Holocaust occurred within the context of World War II,

which was the largest and most destructive conflict in
history. Adolf Hitler and the Nazi regime envisioned a vast
new empire of "living space" (Lebensraum) for the Germans,
through the expulsion of the populations that inhabited
Eastern Europe. The Nazi goal of strengthening the German
"master race" resulted in the persecution and murder of Jews
and many more.

THE BATTLE OF STALINGRAD
Victims: 1,800,000

Marked by fierce hand-to-hand combat and direct assaults on

civilians via airstrikes, it is often considered one of the largest (nearly
2.2 million people) and bloodiest (1.7 to 2 million wounded, killed or
captured) in the history of war. It was an extremely costly defeat for
the German forces, and the Army High Command had to withdraw
vast military forces from the West to replace their losses.
