Five factors to Consider in
Public Speaking
Public Speaking is the act of
speaking to an audience
in a structured manner.
Its purpose is to inform, to
influence, or to entertain.
1. PURPOSE

As a speaker, one has to determine

his intention or purpose of speaking.
By knowing his purpose, he can
sustain his thoughts and remain
focused on the topic.
Verbal Communication
Diction matters. The speaker has to
choose carefully the most
appropriate words use to covey his
message for the words he utter
certainly affects his presentation.
He must practice his speech before
its delivery for clarity.
Nonverbal Communication
A speaker has to be mindful of his
nonverbal communication like his
gestures, stance, facial expressions, and
posture for it is an important as the
words that he intends to convey to the
audience. It is also necessary to show
one’s emotion about the subject as this
will make the information more
dynamic and engaging.
Appearance
A speaker has to dress up
appropriately, meaning, his
attire must be suited to the
occasion. Also, one must see
to it that he is comfortable
with what he is wearing.
Interaction
A speaker must try to interact with
his audience in a more dynamic way,
using his body language and
personal focus to make connections
with his audience. He must establish
eye contact with the audience most
especially when making certain
points.
Let’s try it:

Where Did That Name Come From?

This is another exercise that’ll make you a
better storyteller. Pick an item in your
home, like a stapler, book or etc. and tell a
story about how it got its name. The idea
here isn’t to be accurate, so by all means,
make something up; this is just to get you
in the habit of finding and developing
interesting stories from anything.
Things to do at home:

Make a Commercial
Presentations are all about selling an
idea, so you should practice the art of
sales and persuasion to be the best you
can be. Choose an item in your home
and create a 30 second to 1 minute
commercial presentation about it.
