 What is Gender Based
Violence?
• Sexual and gender based violence refers to
any act that is perpetrated against a person’s
will and is based on gender norms and
unequal power relationships
• This results in, or is likely to result in,
physical, sexual, or psychological harm
• Examples of this may include: intimate
partner violence, controlling access to
healthcare, sexual coercion, rape, trafficking,
verbal aggression, denying employment,
sexual harassment, etc.
• Who does this effect?
