What is weathering
• Weathering is essentially
the breakdown of rocks due to
chemical and mechanical
processes at their places.

Physical
weathering
Physical weathering is caused by
the effects of changing
temperature on rocks, causing
the rock to break apart.
1- Exfoliation
2- Granular disintegration

Chemical
weathering
Chemical Weathering. A cluster
of weathering processes
namely  solution, carbonation,
hydration, oxidation. These
processes act on rocks to
decompose, dissolve or
moderate them to a fine clastic
state through chemical
reactions by oxygen,
surface/soil water, and other
acids.
Biological
weathering
Biological weathering
is weathering caused by
plants, animals, and
microorganisms. Plants,
animals, and microorganisms
release acid forming
chemicals that cause
weathering and also
contribute to the breaking
down of rocks and land
forms. It is the disintegration
of rocks as a result of the
action by living organisms.
