 The new club at San Luis had a large verandah fronting the entrance, restaurant facilities, a
spacious bar, billiard hall and in-house bowling alley.
 The second floor offered 9 rooms rented out as bachelor units to male members. A tennis
court was situated at the corner of a spacious garden which was used for outdoor festivities

 The first Protestant worship service in the Philippines was


held in Manila on August 28, 1898, officiated by Rev. George
C. Stull, a Methodist chaplain and a member of the Montana
Annual Conference. American and Filipino soldiers attended
said service.
 In March 1899, Bishop James M. Thoburn visited Manila and
organized a Methodist group into a charge affiliated with the
Singapore District of the Malaysia Mission Conference.

School for the Deaf and Blind (SDB)

 PSD started in 1907 when Dr. David P. Barrows, the Director of


Education then, invited to the country Miss Delia Delight Rice of
Columbus, Ohio. 
 n June 1923, it occupied the present building, a large two-storey
and semi-concrete structure along Harrison Boulevard on a lot
donated by an anonymous American lady.
 Since then, a number of buildings have been constructed for the
diverse educational programs and services provided for the
needs of the hearing impaired.
Hospicio de San Jose
46. Hospicio de San Jose 1778

 Initially named the Hospicio General (General Hospice), Hospicio de San


José was established during the Spanish Era in October 1778 by Don
Francisco Gómez Enríquez and his wife Doña Barbara Verzosa.
 After being cured of a fever, Don Gómez Enríquez donated the sum of ₱
 4,000 to found the hospice that would take care of Manila’s “poor and
unwanted children”, the physically and mentally handicapped, and aging
people
 From 27 December 1810 and by Royal Decree, the hospice was governed
by a Board of Directors chaired by the Archbishop of Manila
 On 1 June 1866, through the suggestion to the Governor-General of the
Philippines by a benefactor named Doña Margarita Róxas, the operation
of the hospice became the responsibility of the Daughters of Charity of St.
Vincent de Paul

47. San Carlos Seminary - 1792
 San Carlos Seminary was the first diocesan seminary
established in the Philippines.
 In 1562, the Council of Trent decreed that every bishop should
establish in his diocese a center of clerical education which
would serve as a seedbed of the diocesan clergy. In 1581
 The Royal and Conciliar San Carlos Seminary is the
archdiocesan seminary of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of
Manila.
 It was established in the year 1702, by decree of King Philip V
of Spain.
 At present, the institution houses seminarians belonging to
various dioceses in Luzon, particularly from the Metro Manila
 region
