INTRODUCTION

In 1947 after gaining independence, India initiated a path of

industrialization to achieve economic prosperity. India focused on
developing the manufacturing base. Much of the countries development
was done through the five year plans.

The decision makers then encouraged the development of small scale

industries. They perceived that Indian small scale industries would play a
vital role in the economic progress of the country and had immense
potential for employment generation. Developing small scale sector would
also result in decentralized industrial expansion, better distribution of
wealth and to encourage investment and entrepreunial talent.
Literature review

Until recently, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in

developing countries were mainly local affairs: using local inputs, run
by members of local communities, making goods that satisfied the
needs of local people, and boosting local incomes, employment and
entrepreneurship. Widespread economic deregulation and
liberalization, coupled with rapid reduction in transportation costs and
advances in technology, are spurring the emergence of large
international production and trading networks which are reaching out
into poor and remote countries.

Many local SMEs in countries are beginning to be exposed to global

competition, either through direct integration into large commodity
chains, or, indirectly, through penetration of their traditional home
markets (Hegge 2003).
Researchers have begun to throw light on how SMEs are responding
to these processes, and to work out ways of confronting the new
competitive challenges and benefiting from newly emerging market
opportunities. One salient finding is that the competitiveness of SMEs
could be boosted when they are part of regional cluster of firms
engaged in similar and complementary activities which is commonly
denoted as clusters.

In order to meet global competition, SMEs do require capabilities to

continually absorb, reproduce, adapt and improve new technologies
related to products, production processes and production organization
technological capabilities, in short.

1. To find out role of small and medium enterprises

contributing towards growth of Gujarat .

2. To analyze developmental actions carried out by

Gujarat Government for SMEs.

3. To find out performance of SMEs in export activities.

4. To measure role of SMEs towards development of

Sample collection

► To determine the number of respondents that will be asked

to participate and give information regarding the study
convenience sampling will be used.

► Convenience sampling
means to collect or interview individuals who actually
experience the phenomenon.

.
Methodology/Data Collection
Surveys will the primary method of data collection.  Internet
surveys would be used. Internet surveys have been both typed
for their capabilities and criticized for the security issues it
brings. Internet surveys require less finances since there would
be no printing of paper and there would be no need to travel
just to gather data. Internet surveys would also require less
time for the researchers and the respondents.

Data Analysis

The will be analyzed through descriptive statistics and it

would focus on graphical and tabular analysis. Tabular analysis
involves presenting the results of analysis in tables. Frequently
the information contained in a table can be presented as a
graph.
TIME BUDGET

► This research study would be

completed in approximately

1 to 2 months of time duration.

BENEFICIARIES

This study would help to the development of the economy and

along with the regional growth of the country. Other beneficiaries
will be as following.

► Entrepreneurs
► Government
► Project Financing Institutes
► Society
