Problem statement-1

 A comparative study to assess placental weight and fetal

outcome among normal pregnant women and anemic

pregnant women ranging between age group 20-35 at a
selected hospital at Hyderabad.
Objectives
To assess placental weight and foetal outcome in normal pregnant
and anemic mothers.
To determine correlation of placental weight in normal and anemic
mothers.
To determine correlation of foetal outcome in normal and anemic
mothers.
To compare the placental weight and foetal outcome in normal and
anemic mothers.
to find association between placental weight and foetal outcome
with selected demographic variables in both normal and anemic
mothers.
Need for the study

 Anemia is a pathological condition which the oxygen

carrying capacity of red blood cells is insufficient to meet
bodys needs. Which leads to loss of placental weight and
poor perinatal outcome and it is major public health
problem throughout the world . The WHO reports
estimated 56 million live in developing countries the most
severly affected area is south asia, where as 89% of
pregnant women are anemic in india Anemia is
responsible for 12-28% of fetal loss , 30% perinatal death,
and 7-10% of neonatal death.
Review of literature

 A study was conducted to determine the effect of maternal anemia on

placenta and newborn. The sample of total 69 anemic mothers (<11g/dl) and
16 mother without anemia (>11 g/l) were studied fetal birth weight ,
placental morphometry. The results shows that the birth weight , placental
weight and number of cotyledons were significantly severely reduced in
anemic mothers and had direct relationship with maternal hemoglobin level
the hemoglobin and iron levels in the cord blood and placental tissue were
found to have linear correlations with the maternal hemoglobin levels. The
low levels of placental and cord serum iron in the severely anemic mothers
suggest that iron supply to the placenta and the fetus is affected in maternal
anemia and the fetus takes iron in direct proportion to the levels available in
the mother. This study concluded that maternal anemia affects placenta and
newborn.
Problem statement-2

A study to evaluate the effectiveness of Benson’s

relaxation therapy on reduction of pain and stress
among post caesarean mothers admitted at
selected hospital at Hyderabad
Objectives
 Toassess the level of pain and level of stress
among post caesarean mothers at selected
hospitals..
 Toassess the effectiveness of Benson’s
relaxation therapy on reducing pain and stress
among post caesarean mothers in selected
hospital.
 Toassociate between the post test level of pain
among post caesarean mothers with their d
selected demographic variables.
 Tofind associate between the post level of
stress among post caesarean mothers
Need for the study
 Caesarean section is the birth of a foetus accomplished
by performing a surgical incision through the maternal
abdomen and uterus . It is one of the oldest surgical
procedures known throughout history.the alternative
option is exercised based on the health status of the
mother and the child at the time of labor. About 32 % of
mothers prefer planned surgical deliveries . Hence the
outcome of normal pregnancy can be achieved either
through a vaginal delivery or a c- section . The post
LSCS discomfort experienced by mothers after cesarean
delivery may vary from one woman to another woman.
Review of literature
Johnson(2013) expectations and experiences of pain and pain
relief during labour and their involvement in the decision
making. During the due course of review a they were
inadequately prepared for reality of labour pain and were
unable to make informed choices about pain relief. In order
to close this gap, opportunites to practice the non
pharmacological pain relif method was taught to them . An
orview of systemic reviews of pain management in labour
pain and stress. Concluded that breathing exercise was found
to be the effective method of pain relif during labour.
Problem statement-3
 A study to assess the effectiveness of betadine sitz
bath versus neem leaves sitz bath on episiotomy
wound healing among postnatal mothers in selected
hospital Hyderabad
Objectives
 To assess the rate of wound healing in episiotomy after
providing betadine sitz bath among postnatal mothers.
To assess the rate of wound healing in episiotomy after
providing neem leaves sitz bath among postnatal
mothers.
 to compare the effectiveness of neem extract sitz bath
and betadine sitz bath on episiotomy wound healing
among postnatal mothers.
 To study the association between effectiveness of neem
extract sitz bath versus betadine sitz bath on episiotomy
wound healing with selected demographic variable of
postnatal mothers.
Need for the study
The Sanskrit name of the neem is’ releivng the sickness’
It is to give cost effective care that can be contuined at
home . During postpartum period, mother and family used to
face physical and emotional stress , mother and family are
looking to get multidisciplinary approaches to get back to
normal health. Neem contains an excellent amount of amino
acid , vitamin and mineral that is very important in wound
healing process in proliferation [phase. Thus, neem
accelerates the healing process by speeding up the
proliferation phase. Neem it acts as antiviral, antifungal,
anti bacterial, anti – inflammatory, immunomodulatory.
Review of literature
Tejirian et al. conducted a study to justify and support
the recommendations of sitz bath in the management of
ano- rectal disorders. Thirty six articles were found
which highlighted the physiology, benefits , risks ,
complications, and techniques of sitz bath.
This study conducted that sitz bath induces relaxation of
the internal sphincter muscle and cold sitz bath was
reported to decrese perineal edema, this study also
recommended additional studies are needed to
investigate the benefits of sitz bath.
