• FIRST PROVED IN 1833
HOW DOES RABIES OCCUR:

• Rabies is an acute infection of the CNS

• At the site of rabid dog bite virus from the infected saliva enters the wound
• Virus multiplies in muscle and connective tissue at the site of bite
• And then enters the peripheral nerves
• Virus ascends the spinal chord and reaches the brain
• And then spreads to other organs through the nerves
CLINICAL:

• Convulsions
• Diarrhoea
• Dysentery
• Headache
• Hydrophobia
• Leucorrhoea
• Lysophobia
SPHERE OF ACTION:

• Affects principally on the CNS , THROAT & SEXUAL ORGANS

PATHO - PHYSIOLOGY :
• Acting upon the nervous system it produces the following
• Convulsions
• Hypersensitiveness
• Landry’s paralysis
• Nervousness
• Lysophobia
• Mania
• Neuralgia
• Satyriasis
• Tetanus
CONT.

• The sentient nerves of the mouth and pharynx are especially and peculiarly affected, also the
salivary glands.
• There is great congestion and inflammation of the brain, medulla oblongata, spinal cord,
tongue, throat, glottis, fauces, larynx, oesophagus, stomach, and especially kidneys
CHARACTERISTIC SYMPTOMS:

• Want water but cannot drink it

• The sight or sound of running water even thinking of it aggravates all complaints
• Hypersensitiveness of all senses
• Profuse salivation-saliva is tough, ropy, frothy, viscid with frequent spitting
• Constant desire to urinate & to pass stool on seeing running water
• Convulsions, spasms brought on by dazzling light or sight of running water
CONT:

• Complaints from abnormal sexual desire

• Cannot bear heat of sun(gels., glom., Lach.,nat. mur)
• Sleep persistent insomnia
• Ill effects of dog bite
• Dysphagia, spasm of oesophagus from swallowing liquids
• Bluish discolouration of wounds
AILMENTS FROM:

1. Dog bite
2. Excessive sexual desire
3. Mental exertion
MIND:

• Lyssophobia – intense fear of becoming mad

• Lascivious, priapism, with frequent emissions

• No emission during coition
• Atrophy of testicles
• Complaints from abnormal sexual desire
FEMALE:

• Uterine sensitiveness, & displacements

• Sensitiveness of vagina,Rendering coition painful
• Conscious of womb
• Feels prolapsed
• Severe leucorrhoea with pains in back and lower part of bowel
RESPIRATORY:

• Spasmodic contraction of respiratory muscles

• Voice altered in tone
• Breathing held for a time
• Epiglottis crisp & dry
CONVULSIONS:

• From dazzling or reflected light, from water or mirror, from even thinking of fluids of any kind
• Landry’s paralysis-acute ascending paralysis
• Severe nervous twitching in whole body all day
• Twitching of tendons with tendency to convulsions
• Twitching every few minutes: sometimes more violently most marked in abdominal walls
MODALITIES:

• Aggravation: site or sound of running water, dazzling or reflected light, heat of sun, bad news,
thinking of fluids, mental exertion
• Amelioration: bending backwards, gentle rubbing
RELATIONSHIP:

• It follows well tab. , arg. nit , stram.

• Followed well by nat mur.
• Compare: bell., stram., hyoscyaminum
