ESOPHAGITIS
ESOPHAGITIS
ESOPHAGITIS
Pathophysiology?
Gastric hydrochloric acid from reflux
of gastric juices alters the pH of the
esophageal mucosa, permitting
mucosal protein to be denatured;
proteolytic properties of pepsin in
gastric secretions are enhanced in
altered pH, leading to further
damage.
