COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course focuses on the


development of the administrative and
supervisory skills of the professional
midwife.

COURSE
POLICY
ENTRY COMPETENCIES OF THE
STUDENTS
You shall participate in a required field
practicum experience under the
supervision of your qualified clinical
instructor. This provides an opportunity
for hands-on training and application of
theory, knowledge, and skills to actual
situations in a variety of settings.
CLINICAL PRACTICUM SITE
The SAMARICA-RHU and San Jose District Hospital is the setting for your
clinical practicum. Health care facilities that are selected for students’
placements have the following characteristics:
• Offer a wide range of learning experiences with multi-level client
systems;
• Provide services to diverse population groups;
• Provide direct supervision to student by qualified preceptor;
• Provide necessary measures to protect student’s safety such as:
orientation to facilities and standard operating procedures; and
• Provide appropriate learning experiences that complement the work
of the health care facility.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CLINICAL
INSTRUCTOR

• Ensures that student has current PRC license;


• Clarifies with student the plans for the day according to the
leaning contract;
• REMOTELY monitors/supervises student during actual
rendering of care;
• Evaluates day’s activities with student
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE STUDENTS
• Observes professional decorum and professional ethics at all times;
• Wears uniform as prescribed by the institution and student ID;
• Has an active professional license in midwifery;
• Plans for the practicum through submission of the learning contract
which describes one’s practicum goals, objectives, plan of action and
evaluation criteria;
• Keeps a practicum journal which reflects significant activities, personal
reaction and critical thinking;
• Ensures patient’s safety, comfort, and privacy; and
• Renders safe and effective care to patient and family.
ETHICAL AND LEGAL ISSUES

You are expected to have an active professional


midwife license. You must be knowledgeable of and
abide by the Code of Conduct for Midwife
promulgated by the Philippine Board of Midwifery.
You must adhere to the ethical standards and
bioethical principles relevant to the practice of
midwifery.
MODE OF PRACTICUM
Considering the pandemic, students to take their clinical practicum
in their local setting or field of work provided the students satisfy
the following conditions:

• Appropriateness of their local setting or clinical institution they are working for
the required competencies of the course.
• If the student is working in a health setting, a certification and permission from
the head of the institution must be secured through a formal letter of approval.
• Qualified preceptor (RN/ RM with relevant MA degree or BSM with relevant
MA degree and experience) willing to supervise the student without
compensation from the College.
SUBMISSION OF REQUIREMENTS
In preparing your requirements, please adhere
with the following guidelines:
• Use proper English in answering your assignment.
Your grade may be affected by language errors.
• Poorly prepared assignment will be returned to
you ungraded.
• Upload of assignments in the Submission Bin
portal (Google Classroom) within the assigned
schedule is encouraged.
SUBMISSION OF REQUIREMENTS
• Late submission of assignments will still be accepted after its due
date. However, additional points will be given for those who have
submitted on time. Please refrain from submitting your
requirements via email address.

• If you decide to send your assignment by courier, it should be post


marked on the date that the assignment is due. Keep a duplicate
copy of your assignments just in case what you submitted gets lost in
transit. It may not be easy to reconstruct an assignment if you don’t
have a file copy of the original.
ACADEMIC INTEGRITY

As an OMSC student, you will be on your own.


You are, however, expected to observe intellectual
honesty at all times. This means doing your
assignments and term papers yourself,
acknowledging indebtedness to sources of original
ideas and quotes or materials which are used,
participating in online forums, and taking the
examinations yourself.
