The Female Reproductive System

Two main functions:

1. To produce egg cells and;

2. To nourish the growing baby


inside the womb until birth.

OVARIES
- These are the primary organs of
females.
- They release cells called the egg
cells or ova in a process known as
ovulation.
OVARIES
- They also produce and secrete
estrogen.
- Estrogen - a hormone for
development of the secondary sex
characteristics among girls
Secondary Sex Characteristics

- these are specific traits for males and


females that develop during puberty.
FAllOPIAN TUBES

- These serves as the


passengers for the egg cells
as they travel from the ovary
to the uterus.
UTERUS

- It is also known as
the womb, the part
where the baby
develops.
CERVIX
- This is the narrow
muscular end of the
uterus.

- Its opening expands


during childbirth to allow
baby to pass through the
vagina.
VAGINA

- It is the female sex organ where the


semen that contains the sperm cells
from the male is deposited during
sexual intercourse.
VAGINA
- It is also where the baby
comes out during birth.

- The vagina is also called


the birth canal.
