PRODUCTION OF

SYNGAS FROM
BAGASSE

WHY WE SELECT THIS
PROJECT?
Less Dependency on fossil fuel

 Green House Gas
 Smog reduce
 Versatile
WHY WE USE BAGASSE FOR
THIS PROCESS
 Bagasse contains about 2-4% ash on dry basis which is rather lower as compared to other crop
residue such as, rice husk and wheat straw which contain 17.5% and 11.0% ash content,
respectively. [1-2]
 Sugar cane trash is generated through the growing of sugar cane which is a major crop in
Pakistan.

YEARLY ENERGY
PRODUCTION
PREPROCESSING OF BAGASSE
 Grinding by hammer mill average particle size 0.3 mm.
 Active drying by hot air dryer, moisture removal from 48 wt.% to 7-8 wt.%. [6 7 8 9]

GASIFICATION
 Type of Gasifier used is sand bed fluidized reactor.

 We have select data from ER value 0.23 and 0.28

 By increasing ER ratio internal gasifier temperature increases.

[11, 12]
CYCLONE SEPARATOR AND
HEAT EXCHANGER
 To remove Ash.
 The temperature were set at 700C for the air heater, plenum and preboard. For cyclones and
piping, the condenser, temperature was set at 400C. These temperatures are for the metal wall.
After 30 minute the systems reaches its high temperature value. At this point air flow rate was
reduced to 37 L min-1.
 After 50 minute system stabilizes completely, reaching were 480C inside the gasifier, 310 C
inside the cyclone 1and 200 in the pipe before the condenser.
 It began with continuous feeding of bagasse reactor and an increase in the internal gasifier was
immediately observed. After stabilzing of TG, the syngas was collected in different instances
to make steady state has been reached.
 At the end the bagass is turned off but the passage of air is allowed for 5 minute more. System
cooled , char biotar collected, weighed and analyzed.
