What is chemical engineering?
• In the latter half of the 18th
• It is a branch of
engineering which is century chemical engineering
concerned with how to began to earn the status of an
make useful products using independent division of
raw materials, chemically. knowledge.
In 1772 Professor J.Beckman
coined the term “ Chemical
Engineering”.
History of chemical engineering

Chemical engineering is as old as the process industries.

Its heritage dates from the fermentation
and evaporation processes operated by early civilizations.
Modern chemical engineering emerged with the
development of large-scale, chemical-manufacturing
operations in the second half of the 19th century.
Throughout its development as an independent discipline,
chemical engineering has been directed toward solving
problems of designing and operating large plants for
continuous production.
Career in chemical engineering
• designing clean energy systems
• solving environmental and pollution problems
• devising innovative fuel and biological fuel cells
• producing pharmaceuticals within the biotechnology sector
• devising technologies to extract and refine metals and
minerals
• improving food, beverage and drug processing
• designing and operating petroleum and petrochemical plants
What do chemical enginees do?
• Chemical engineers are involved in the design,
modification and operation of processes to produce
the things we use everyday: chocolate,
petrol,cosmetics,cars,aspirin, the list is enless…
 Chemical products
 Pharmatics

 Energy
 Oil and gas
 Mining and minerals
Chemical engineers apply
the principles of chemistry,
biology, physics and math
to solve problems that
involve the production or
use of chemicals, fuel,
drugs, food and many
other products, according
to the U.S. Bureau of Labor
Statistics (BLS).
Production of chemical engineers

• Chemical products
House hold products:sugar,all kind of
sodas,oil&ghee
Parmaceuticals
Use in medical:medicines,tables,injections,suspension
Energy
nuclear power plant, thermal power plant, batteries, dry cells
Mining and minerals
Gold,copper,steel,coal
Energy
Chemical engineers are well-suited to meet the
challenges associated with all types of energy production.
They have long contributed to the development of such
traditional, nonrenewable fossil-fuel sources as coal,
petroleum, and natural gas and propane. More recently
their efforts have been concentrated on renewable fuels
derived from biomass feedstocks, solar power, and wind.
Pharmaceuticals
Pharmaceutial use in medical.The pharmaceutical
industry is largely regulated by
institutions.Forexample:mediciens,tables,injections
,suspension.
