What is the story behind the
barangay name Pinagbayanan?
• The public market was located in that
barrio that is why it was called
PINAGBAYANAN.
• LUMANG BAYAN
For what reason it was
relocated?
• During old times, the flash flood occurs
frequently in Lumang Bayan.
• To the extent that the floods reach
peoples chest and even peoples normal
height.
• During rainy season and the rivers
from Rosario, Lipa and Padre Garcia
overflow it goes on to the river of
Lumang Bayan but because the
“bangkaro” and “terondon” were not
too high to stop the overflowing of
water, flash flood occurs frequently.
• That is why the public market was
relocated at Brgy. Poblacion
Is it true that Lumang Bayan
used to be the hiding place of
Rizal during Spaniards
colonization?
• According to Nanay Belen’s friend, Noel,
that was also told by Noel’s ancestors that
Rizal used to stay at that barrio, but
Nanay Belen doesn’t believe this story
because they can’t present some
supporting documents that will support it.
• Nanay Belen remembered that Japanese
was the colonizer who used to stay in
Lumang Bayan.

• Nanay De Una reminisced her memory
about the times that Japanese colonized
Lumang Bayan.
• Japanese used to hide in “paksol” or the
underground tunnel during old times
according to Nanay De Una.

river located in their barangay.
What makes Pinagbayanan’s
fiesta unique from any other
barangay in San Juan?
• They held procession in the afternoon
but what makes it unique is that, they
should walk on to everyone’s house
because they might get mad for not
doing it and if it happen the owner of
the house wouldn’t give any
contribution for the fiesta.
• During teenage years of Nanay Belen
with her peer group and co-barangay,
they always planned on doing some
variety show, they direct it and they
also act for it.
• Nanay Belen has friend who leads the
group.
• Everyone in that barrio contributes
something, its either monetary
contribution or voluntary participation
on making decorations for fiesta, one
of it is the “kaluskos” that was
supposedly place in front of their
chapel.
• Hwego de Amelyo (game during
fiesta) the two opponents riding with
his carabao carrying their weapon
warrior, during the game the first
opponent who will knock-down will
definitely be lose.
Who is the patron saint they’ve
been celebrating with?
• San Juan de Nepomuceno was their
first patron saint but it was replaced
by Our Lady of Mary Mediatrix of all
Grace because San Juan de
Nepomuceno was relocated in San
Juan’s church at Poblacion.
What is the date of the fiesta?

• June 5 was the first celebration of


their fiesta but it was changed
because the date of fiesta should be
based on the patron saint’s birth date
which was September 12.
What are the historical places
that Pinagbayanan are proud
of?
• Pinagbayanan Elementary School-
this school portrays the Barangay’s
cleanliness and peacefulness.
Unang Simbahan ng San Juan
• They are very proud of this historical
place because this coming October
Unang Simbahan ng San Juan will be
joining the Regional Cultural Heritage.
The Historical House of
Nanay Belen
• Nanay Belen’s house is one of the
most beautiful house in Pinagbayanan
because it looks like Rizal’s house
during old times.
Fish Pond of Brgy.
Pinagbayanan
• This fish pond was located at the back of
Unang Simbahan ng San Juan.
• This place was chosen by Tourism of San
Juan to held the banquet of Tourism
officers of the Municipality of San Juan
with the Japanese visitors this coming
October.
