1.Gas insulated switchgear
◦ Gas insulated switchgears (GISs) are installed as
substation equipment and receiving equipment for safe and
stable supply of electricity. Circuit breakers, disconnectors,
earthing devices, etc. are enclosed and stored in metal
containers using a high-insulation-performance gas. Thus,
the equipment is very compact, reliable, and safe.
2. Transformer
◦ Transformers convert AC voltage by electromagnetic
induction.Specifically, transformers convert high voltage
from power plants and substations, etc. to a voltage that is
suitable for respective purposes and applications.
3. Series Reactor
◦ Series reactors are connected in series to power
capacitors. They suppress harmonics in the power
grid and prevent problems caused by unusual events
such as transient overcurrent and overvoltage that
are generated by opening and closing of power
capacitors.
4. Ac filter
◦ AC filters absorb the harmonic currents that are generated
during AC-DC conversion by combining power capacitors
with reactors. They are used for a wide range of voltage
and are designed for high voltage (3.3 kV class) to ultra-
high voltage (500 kV). They are applicable to various
types of equipment including inverter equipment, DC
transmission converter stations, and frequency converter
stations
5. Protection relay
◦ Protection relays protect electric circuits and equipment by
detecting sudden changes in the current and voltage
attributed to accidents in and outside equipment or
overload, etc. and transmitting control signals to circuit
breakers to isolate a fault section promptly from the power
grid. There are various relay elements depending on the
electric elements to be detected and equipment and circuits
to be protected, etc.
6. Multiple environment sensor
◦ Electrical equipment such as receiving and distribution
equipment is used under various conditions. The service
life is affected by the installation environment, load
conditions, maintenance conditions, among other factors.
Installation and operation of a multiple environment sensor
helps visualize the installation environment, improve the
environment by air conditioning equipment control, and
achieve appropriate maintenance by utilizing the
environmental data.
7.Instrument transformer
◦ Instrument transformers are installed in AC circuits to
convert large high-voltage currents into small low-voltage
currents to conduct measurements. There are mainly two
types of instrument transformers: voltage transformers
(VTs) and current transformers (CTs). These instrument
transformers are used in circuits of voltmeters, ammeters,
electricity meters, relays, etc.
8. Shunt reactor
◦ Shunt reactors are connected in parallel to the power grid.
They supply the necessary lagging reactive power to
compensate for the leading reactive power (earth capacity
of the system) to help stabilize the system voltage.
9.Power capacitor
◦ Power capacitors are connected in parallel to loads to
ensure efficient consumption of electricity. They are used
to improve the power factor and regulate voltage. They are
installed at substations and factories, etc. to help achieve
stable supply of electricity and reduce electricity fees, etc.
Power capacitors are essential for substation equipment.
10. Switch gear
◦ Switchgears receive electricity at the specified voltage,
increase or lowers the voltage, and distribute electricity to
respective loads to supply electricity safely. They are
stored in a metallic enclosure so that they can be used
safely over the long term. They are equipped with switches
for operating equipment, meters for measuring voltage and
current, etc., and protection relays for detecting
abnormalities, among other instruments.

Voltage Regulators
Every Alternator is provided with automatic
voltage regulator which perform following functions –
1. Control of voltage within prescribed limits.
2. Proper division of reactive power b/w alternator
operating in parallel.
3. Prevention of dangerous over voltage in system.

Types
2. Using transformers .
3. Induction voltage regulators.
4. Now a days electric voltage regulators are used for
greater sensitivity and accuracy.
Bus Bar
Bus bar is a main bar or
conductor carrying an
electric current to which
many connection are to be made.

Usually two bus bars are provided in a system one is

called main and other is called auxiliary bar.

Material used for bus bar is aluminium because it has

high corrosion resistance than copper and lower cost.
Bus bar are of 5 to 6 meter in length.
