Formoterol/budesonide

inhalation

Indication
1.Asthma
Treatment in patients whose disease is not adequately
controlled by long-term medication or whose disease severity
warrants treatment with long-acting beta agonist (LABA) and
inhaled corticosteroid

2.COPD
Mechanism of action

• Formoterol: Long-acting selective beta2-adrenergic agonist


with rapid onset of action; acts locally as bronchodilator;
causing relaxation of bronchial smooth muscle and inhibition
of release of mast cell mediators
MOA. Continued
Budesonide:Budesonide: Anti-inflammatory corticosteroid;
has potent glucocorticoid activity and weak
mineralocorticoid
Adverse Effects

• Upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) (8-11%)


• Headache (7-11%)
• Nasopharyngitis (7-11%)
Contraindication

• 1 hypersensitivity
• 2.Primary treatment of status asthmaticus or acute
episodes of asthma or COPD requiring intensive measures
Advantages of formoterol/budesonide
combination
• Budesonide/formoterol combination in a single inhaler
represents a safe, effective and convenient treatment
option for management of patients with unstable asthma
than inhaled steroid alone. This combination has shown
effectiveness for both maintenance and rescue
therapy.44%
