THE MOST PRISTINE PLACES

ALL OVER THE WORLD.

TAPUI, VENEZUELA
LF-81, YANA ASTAKHOVA
In South America, Venezuela,
Brazil and Guyana are home to
striking mesas called tepuis.
They were formed as a result of
the destruction of a huge
plateau, which in prehistoric
times stretched from the shores
of the Atlantic Ocean to the
borders of the Orinoco, Amazon
and Rio Negro river basins.
The most famous karst sinkhole, Abismo Gui
Collet, is 672 meters deep
From the language of
the Indians pemon, the
"tepui" is translated as
"home of the gods",
which is not strange,
because the high
mountains, shrouded in
fluffy clouds, may well
serve as a habitat for
such important persons.
Tepui, for the most part standing at a distance from each other,
rise above the jungle in various-sized hard-to-reach cliffs.
Roraima is the
highest tepui in
Venezuela, has
2810 meters, and
the top is a plateau
with an area of 34
km².
