Case Background:

 Baseball has become a business more than only being a game. Many
fans nowadays are looking for easy way to buy tickets to game, watch
games . They prefer online ticket booking system and watching the
match in television or any other electronic devices.
 To meet such needs of consumers, the New York’s Yankees built new
Yankee Stadium, the stadium of future. This technology enabled
stadium has got more popularity because of its facilities.
 We will be talking about the services provided by the stadium and
technology used in this presentation.
Question 1.
State three reasons for why the Yankee Stadium needed to be technology
enabled?
 Three main reasons for the need of Yankee Stadium being technology
enabled are as follows:
 People preferred to use online medium to book tickets to games. So, the
stadium had to provide facilities to such audiences through the use of
technology.
 Nowadays, many fans chose to watch the game on television or through
electronic means. To keep such fans happy, the stadium needed to offer
videos and technology based services.
 Being technology enabled, the stadium was able to attract many
audiences because of the facilities provided to them. So it was also a
reason for the stadium to be technology enabled.
Besides above mentioned reasons, meeting global challenges,
capturing opportunities in the market places, supporting corporate
strategies, increasing the quality of services and goods etc also happen to
be some important reasons for the stadium to be technology enabled.
Question 2:
Mention the technologies that were implemented by the Yankee
Stadium.
 The technologies implemented by the Yankee stadium are mentioned below:
 Intensive use of video and computer technology including:
 1200 flat panel high definition HDTV monitors displaying live game
coverage, up-to-date sports scores, archival and highlight video,
promotional messages, news, weather and traffic updates.
 Huge monitor in the centerfield (101 feet wide and 59 feet high) that
provides up to the moment traffic and directions to the nearest stadium
exits.
 A system of monitors in team’s video room allows the players to review
their own gameplay being able to view the play from any angle.
 Video conferencing technology allowing the fans to talk to the players
before or after games.
 Touch screen phones for wealthy fans in their luxury suits to order food and
merchandise.
 Developed their own website named ‘www.yankees.com’ that provide various
services and information to the fans and followers which we will discuss later.
Question 3.
In what ways the work flow of Yankee stadium changed after the
implementation of IT and CBIS?
 After the implementation of IT and CBIS, New York Yankee Stadium
changed their workflow as the following :
 Communication between all staffs, players, coach etc. started to take
place through video conferencing.
 Player talk to fans before or after games
 Fans can get lots of information about the stadium though the website
 Audience can buy food and merchandise by using touch screen phones
while watching the game.
 People can easily watch the game as well as game highlights from
anywhere at anytime with very low cost.
Question 4.
The followers and fans of New York Yankee’s Stadium
increased gradually after the adaptation of IT. Do you agree?
 As the fans and followers are privileged with the following facilities,
viewers have increased:
 Fans are up to date with every new scores wherever they are within the
stadium like restroom, restaurants and bars since the monitors are
displayed in these places
 Interactive video conferences with the fans are sent to the fans’ home
TVs and phones.
 Audiences can interact with each other, find nearby facilities, obtain
reviews of concessions, play pub-style trivia games and check for new
updates with the use of an application called venuing.
Question 5.
How the smart devices and social media were used by the
New York Yankee’s fans?
 There is intensive use of video and computer technology within the
stadium. The projected video can be seen through every angle fans
want.
 HDTV monitors are displayed throughout the stadium which updates
the fans with new scores.
 Touch screen phones are available at the luxury suites to order food
and merchandise.
 Within the stadium, video conferencing links to a library in Bronx and
New York city locations like hospitals.
 This way, smart devices and social media were used by New York
Yankee’s fans.

Information technology should be the part of business strategy.
Justify.
 Information technology plays an important role in delivering value for
a business and supporting organizational transformation. It’s aim is to
make an organization more competitive by aligning business strategy.
It helps to support in improving innovation capabilities and developing
new product and services . It helps business to respond to change in
demand, increase revenue and maintain customer satisfaction. It
provide faster and more efficient service to customer at affordable
price. It helps to insight into customer needs and preferences by
collecting and analyzing data and also helps to make changes in
product. Therefore, Information technology should be an important
part of business strategy.
Question 7.
would you suggest the stadium in your city to be technology
enabled? Why? Why not?
 Yes, I suggest the stadium in our city to be technology enabled as
technology is the heart of today’s world. It has many applications. It
helps to enhance security of the stadium through various cameras.
Modern ticketing system helps the fans to book tickets from their own
residents which will reduce crowds while buying tickets. Device with
sensors help to detect weapons and dangerous people. Wi-Fi ensures
fans to connect to the internet while enjoying the games. Modern
technology used in stadium helps in better quality of videos even in
television and other electronic media. So, it is essential for a stadium to
be technologically enabled.
Question 8.
Explore the Yankee’s website (yankees.com) and answer the following
questions:
a. What kind of information and services does the web site provide to
fans and followers?
 After visiting the website ‘yankees.com’, we came to know that the website
provides series of information and services to its fans and followers. The
website provided services and information under the following topics:
 Tickets : to help audiences get online tickets
 Schedule : shows the scheduled dates of matches
 Scores : provides scores of every match
 Stats : provides game records of players
 Roster : provides information related to staffs, coach and players
 Video : uploads short clips of matches
 News : shows news related to the stadium
 Shop : allows fans to buy sports related items like customized jerseys,
hoodies, hats etc.
b. Is the website interactive enough to retain its fans and followers for
longer time?
 Yes, the website is interactive enough to retain its fans and followers for
longer time.
 We could find that the website has provided required information related to
the matches that the fans may have been interested to.
 The latest updates are uploaded to the website.
 It has made easier for the fans to get tickets online.
 The shop provides customized jerseys with their names printed to the fans.
 It also allows to watch live games.
 The site has provided all the required information that an audience would
expect from it.

 So, we can say that the website is interactive enough to retain its fans and
followers for longer time as it is up-to-date with its consumers’ needs and
preferences. This way, the website can get higher reach in its upcoming date.
c. What would be the impact on the New York’s Yankee’s business if the
web site was not available?

 If the web site was not available, the New York’s Yankee stadium would
have some great impact on its business.
 A website can be a great method of advertising. It gives the business huge
recognition. If this website was not available, the customers would not
have been able to know about the stadium.
 The Yankee’s business would not have been able to meet the global
challenges, capture opportunities in the market, support corporate
strategies etc if the web site was not developed.
Conclusion
In this case, we were able know the importance of IT
and its applications. By the use of IT, the Yankee
Stadium was able to change the way of running their
business. Their new way of running the business
helped the stadium to attract new and more fans and
followers.
