Brainstorming
• Brainstorming is a group creativity
technique designed to generate a large
number of ideas for the solution of a problem.
• Brainstorming is a popular tool that helps you
generate creative solutions to a problem.
Group Brainstorming
• When it works, group brainstorming can be very effective
for bringing the full experience and creativity of all
members of the group to bear on an issue. When
individual group members get stuck with an idea, another
member's creativity and experience can take the idea to
the next stage. Group brainstorming can therefore develop
ideas in more depth than individual brainstorming
• Brainstorming is a useful
way of generating radical
solutions to problems, just
as long as it's managed
well. During the brainstorming
process there is no criticism of ideas, and free rein
is given to people's creativity (criticism and
judgment cramp creativity.)
Mind-Mapping
Mind maps are a graphical method of taking notes.
generally a hierarchical or tree branch format, with
ideas branching into their subsections.
A graphical technique that encourages thinking on
the both sides of the brain, visually displays the
various relationships among ideas and improves
the ability to view a problem from many sides
Mind-Mapping
• A mind map is often created around a single word
or text, placed in the center, to which associated
ideas, words and concepts are added.
• Mind maps have many applications in personal,
family, educational, and business situations,
including note taking, brainstorming, summarizing,
or to sort out a complicated idea.
Usage:
o Mind maps can be used for:
o Problem solving
o Outline/framework design
o Anonymous collaboration
o Marriage of words and visuals
o Individual expression of creativity
o Condensing material into A concise and memorable format
o Team building or synergy creating activity
o Enhancing work morale
TRIZ
• TRIZ presents a systematic approach for analyzing
the kind of challenging problems where
inventiveness is needed and provides a range of
strategies and tools for finding inventive solutions.
• The central purpose of TRIZ-based analysis is to
systematically apply the strategies and tools to find
superior solutions that overcome the need for a
compromise or trade-off between the two elements.
