1. INTRODUCTION
1. In this study , the thermal performance of plate
fin heat sink with modified plate fins subjected to
natural convection is considered. As we know that
heat sink are the devices which consist of a base
and fins that extend outward and are used to
absorb excessive or unwanted heat from a system.
2. If process of extraction of heat is carried out
with the help of an external source e.g. Fan ,
then it is called as active (forced) heat sink and if
there is no external source used then it is called as
passive (natural) heat sink.
3 . Fins are classified according to their design i.e.
Plate fins, Pin fins, disk/ annular fins, radial fins,
etc.

3. STATE OF ART RELATED TO THE TOPIC
OF INTEREST

 Nowadays a great effort is being laid on Increasing the

surface area of heat sink by making dimples or interruptions
over fins or changing its design to a chimney or capped cubic
pin-fins heat sink.
 Also, the effect of different types of microchannels with
various rib shapes are observed.
 Hence, to enhance the heat transfer rate, I'm increasing the
surface area of the plate by adding different structure (like
hollow semi-circular pin) on both sides of the plate fin.
4. PROBLEM STATEMENT

actual plate fin.

6. OBJECTIVE AND SCOPE

OBJECTIVE
To increase the surface area for heat transfer and
getting the best performance of the plate fin.

GEOMETRICAL PARAMTER:
1. Changing the shape of the plate fin

SCOPE
This design can used to increase the heat transfer
rate. The rate of heat transfer increases as the heat
generated in the body increases. It can be used in
devices with small dimension and producing high
amount of heat
