CAUSE
EFFECT

The problem is that fake news may actually give the wrong impression which may affect people’s opinion on others and then cause harm.
Fake news creates confusion and affects the people’s decision-making on important issues. Even the most educated reader may be fooled
into believing fake news.

The Manunggul jar was one
of the numerous jars found
in a cave believed to be a
burial site (Manunggul, was
part of the archaeologically
significant Tabon Cave
Complex in Lipuun Point,
Quezon, Palawan) that was
discovered on March 1964
by Victor Decalan, Hans
Kasten and other volunteer
workers from the United
States Peace Corps.

It was also a testament of the importance of
the waters to our ancestors. The seas and
the rivers were their conduit of trade,
information and communication.
Many epics around the
Philippines would tell us of how
souls go to the next life aboard
boats, passing through the rivers
and seas. The belief was very
much connected with the
Austronesia belief in the anito.
Our ancestors believed that man
is composed of the body, the life
force called the ginhawa, and the
kaluluwa (soul). The kaluluwa,
after death, can return to earth to
exist in nature and guide their
descendants. This explained why
the cover of the Manunggul jar
featured three faces: the soul, the
boat driver, and of the boat itself.
For them, even things from
nature have souls and lives of
their own. That’s why our
ancestors respected nature more
than those who thought that it
can be used for the ends of man.
• Hatching - makes use of a series of
closely drawn parallel lines
running in the same direction. To
produce different tonal values,
lines may vary in quantity, length,
thickness and spacing in between.

Crosshatching - makes use of

layered hatching at different
angles. It combines vertical,
horizontal and diagonal lines.
•  Scribbling - makes use of
spontaneously drawn lines

Blending –Smooth gradations of

value are produced either by
adjusting the amount of pressure
applied to the medium or by using
a blending tool.
4. Stippling is a technique in
which the appearance of depth
and texture is created with a
series of tiny dots

As a Canossian it is your duty and responsibility to combat fake news

A S.M.A.R.T. Canossian with the

heart is a person of character who
adheres to the truth no matter

before
what the consequences are.

He/ She distinguishes the real

news from fake ones and stops
the spread of such.

WHAT
CAN YOU SAY
ABOUT THESE
DRAWINGS?
This drawing was done with HB and 6B
pencils on 160 g/m2 paper in April 2020
during the first community lockdown of
Lipa City.

The Nike sneakers was done with

black sharpie on white paper. It
was completed in Connecticut,
USA in June 2019 as a souvenir
for my son.
The converse sneakers was done
with staedler 6B pencil on paper
in the school’s art room in 2015
with the GTEP in ART members.

The last drawing, a huge pine cone from

Napa Valley, California, USA was done
in the comfort of my home in 2015,
using Faber Castell watercolor pencils
on paper
