Adjective Clauses – Subject Position
Do you know this place? Where is it?
Taksim, İstanbul
Imagine that you are walking from the opposite site with a friend and
this is the view in front of you.
You see your ex-instructor in the crowd and you want to show him
to your friend. How can you make the person specific without
pointing to him? Explain.
• You can use an adjective + noun:
The short man was my instructor at university.
But what if there are a lot of short men around? The adjective
«short» will not be enough.
Let’s try another adjective:
The brunette man was my instructor at university.
But what if there are a lot of brunette men around? The adjective
«brunette» will not be enough.
There must be another way to make this person specific!
Let’s try this way:
The man who has a grey T-shirt and black Bermuda shorts
was my instructor at university.
Can you now tell which person from the crowd was the instructor?
The person with a red circle around!
Now I am going to describe some
things or people, and you will find
them in the photographs.
