Plan Approval – DNV NPS (Nauticus Production System)(7)
 Support continuous improvement of the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of work process of Classification
 Involves New-Building/conversion (PA; Site Survey; CMC) & In Operation
 Ensure work processes consistently and efficiently across disciplines and geographic borders
 Main channel for gathering and disseminating structured data, information and knowledge internally in the work
processes and externally to/from customers and stakeholders
 Provide means to documents submitted electronically through “DNV Exchange” (eApproval) be transferred directly to
the Approval Engineer appointed to the task
 Tool that gives means to define and inform the stakeholders the DocReq: Documentation Required for classification.
The NPS DocReq is a compilation of all documentation required to DNV approval.
 Provide status information & DNV Comments of the submitted documentation to all parts involved on design,
construction or operation of the unit.

 The surveys conducted during a new
building/conversion project categorized as follows:
- Survey Cat1 - Statutory & Essential / Primary Systems for Safety
- Survey Cat2 - Main Systems / Functionally Important/ Special (For Main
& Additional Class Notations). Based on yard capability/experience.
- Survey Cat3 – Minimum attendance required by surveyor (i.e. Secondary
structures, some Cat 2 drill systems, commissioning of some systems
where integration testing is also carried out)

 The yard evaluation by DNV, tailored to specifics of

yard and project in question, is used to

Certification of Materials & Components:
Approach to activity
 Proper follow-up is essential to ensure that all materials and components are
delivered to the project with relevant certificates obtained by the supplier
 DNV will nominate a CMC (Certification of Materials and Components) co-ordinator:
that will perform the following tasks during the course of the project:
- Review main purchase list and equipment list to determine DNV involvement
- Ensure through a Quality Plan and procedures consistency by DNV approval/surveys
- Inform local DNV office about purchased packages in their district.
- Inform maker about relevant requirements upon contract assignment
- DNV issuance of Design Verification Reports (DVR’s) covering all category IA and IB
- Provide advice on which sections of the DNV Class Rules will need to be complied with
- Co-ordinate design verification and issuance of Product Certificate.
- Progress monitoring of DNV design review activities of Vendor equipment to ensure that the
Certification requirements are fully satisfied.

How do we interact (stakeholders/expectations from them)
 The following is a summary of interacting modes by DNV:
- Kick off Meeting
- Engineering Site
- Construction Site

- Attend essential meetings for Follow-up of DNV Comments & CMC Coordination
- This regular project meetings as agreed must be in a reasonable intervals; not every production/review
meeting
- DNV has launched a corporate program to reduce CO2 emissions through a policy of incentives for
videoconferencing, where possible, in place of physical meetings where flights are needed.

- Scheduled and unscheduled surveys

- throughout project life cycle and at the discretion of DNV
- Construction PIT to be submitted to PMF
- Daily Inspection Program to be delivered 24h before tests

- Project Report that shows the project progress (Plan Approval; Site Survey & CMC to be
issued in a monthly basis)

What we can do (and cannot do),
understanding the roles and limitations
 Below some typical situations related to roles of classification:
- Deviations from regulatory requirements
- Only relevant authorities can accept
- DNV can represent (where allowed) and support where appropriate
- Attending Surveys
- As reflected in the approved QSP
- Will need inspection request irrespective of attendance
- Signing of documents
- Sign essential statutory & class documents only
- Sign documents when we survey / witness
- Review critical documents for status check and follow up
- Witnessing testing & commissioning
- Only Statutory & Class items
- Open to equivalent solutions to the problems
- Assist in finding solutions (case by case; may be limited due to conflict of interest)
