-April 23, 1564 - Died April 23, 1616.

-Born and raised in Stratford-upon-Avon.

- At the age of 18, he married Anne Hathaway and had three children, Susanna Hall and twins.

- Include 38 plays, 154 sonnets, two long narrative poems, and 104 short poems.

- 1585-1592, his career was a huge success in London as an actor, writer and sometimes owner
of a theater company Lord Chamberlain's Men.

-He returned to his hometown of Stratford to retire in 1613, at the age of 49, where he died three
years later.

b. Characters:
- Romeo
The son and heir of Montague and
Lady Montague. A young man of
about sixteen, Romeo is handsome,
intelligent, and sensitive. He lives in
the middle of a violent feud between
his family and the Capulets, but he is
not at all interested in violence. His
only interest is love. He secretly
marries Juliet, the daughter of his
father’s worst enemy.
- Juliet
The daughter of Capulet and
Lady Capulet. A beautiful
thirteen-year-old girl, Juliet
begins the play as a naive child
who has thought little about
love and marriage, but she
grows up quickly upon falling
in love with Romeo, the son of
her family’s great enemy. She
is a girl in an aristocratic
family. Nevertheless, she
shows amazing courage in
trusting her entire life and
future to Romeo.
c. Conflict:
- The major conflict in Romeo and Juliet is not
between the two main characters, but between their
families, the Montagues and the Capulets. All of
the other problems in the plot stem from this feud,
and the two lovers must keep their love a secret
and go to great lengths to fight the greater forces
against them. In the end, the families are able to
make peace, but it comes at a great price.
d. Plot:
An age-old vendetta between two powerful families erupts into
bloodshed. A group of masked Montagues risk further conflict by
gatecrashing a Capulet party. A young lovesick Romeo Montague
falls instantly in love with Juliet Capulet, who is due to marry her
father’s choice, the County Paris. With the help of Juliet’s nurse, the
women arrange for the couple to marry the next day, but Romeo’s
attempt to halt a street fight leads to the death of Juliet’s own cousin,
Tybalt, for which Romeo is banished. In a desperate attempt to be
reunited with Romeo, Juliet follows the Friar’s plot and fakes her
own death. The message fails to reach Romeo, and believing Juliet
dead, he takes his life in her tomb. Juliet wakes to find Romeo’s
corpse beside her and kills herself. The grieving family agree to end
their feud.
