Morality is doing The way to
good and avoiding Christ which
evil. leads to life.
What is Christian
Morality?
 It is about following Jesus Christ as
His disciples, strengthened by the
Holy Spirit.
 It is about living and doing what
makes us truly free and reflecting on
our human experiences in the light of
the life and teachings of Jesus.
ASPECTS OF CHRISTIAN MORALITY

A. The ability to know right from wrong.

The ability to know good from evil.
B. The ability to distinguish what is
appropriate from what is inappropriate.
C. The commitment to do what is right.
BASIS OF CHRISTIAN MORALITY

Christian morality is based on the teachings of Jesus

and his Church through:

• The essence of Jesus’ teaching is love.

• The teachings of the Magisterium (Pope, bishops).
MORALITY therefore … Is man’s response
to God’s freely (choose or not to choose
given love and His gift of Salvation).

performed by a human being with freedom

 it is man’s act of sensation (use of senses), and appetition
or use of bodily tendencies (such as sweating…) without
the use of freedom.

and A if it is an act of man.

Different Philosophical Thought regarding
Morality
 Hedonism – a philosophical way of life that is centered in
pleasure. What is pleasurable is good and what causes pain and
suffering is bad.
 Humanism – is the philosophical belief where man relies in
himself alone as the creator of himself.
 Existentialism – a philosophical thought that holds that we are
the one who creates our destiny relying on the power of will
and freedom.
Different Philosophical Thought regarding
Morality
 Capitalism – is an economic principle that gives primacy to
capital (money), economy, and work. It disregard the right of man
and his obligation to others. Man is sees as the object of work and
not the subject of work.
 Nihilism – is the philosophical belied that values are baseless.
Moral nihilism on the other hand believes that nothing is morally
right or wrong.
 Utilitarianism – belief the an action can be morally right or wrong
based on its effect.
Jesus Christ is the Moral Norm

1. What is one action you consider wrong or
evil?
2. What is one action you consider right or just?
3. Why do you think people commit actions that
they know are sinful or wrong?
Social Issue: Suicide
Accordingly to the
World Health Organization, that means there
are currently over 300 million people in the
world currently living with depression.
Whatever the cause, for some of these
people, the emotional pain will become too
much and they will consider suicide as an
option of escape.
But they don’t know that..
Suicide doesn’t end the chances of life getting worse, it
eliminates the possibility of it ever getting any better.
• Those who are deeply depressed and considering suicide
usually have difficulty realizing that their life can get
better.
• If you choose suicide, then you're eliminating future
hope and the possibility of finding happiness and
enjoyment.
• When the mind is so dark, it can be hard to see any
possibility for future happiness, but it can – and
often does – get better.

Whether it’s through taking medication, counselling,

exercise, eating well, getting into a routine, or
setting goals, these steps will help you on your path.
Know that it is possible to recover from feelings of
depression, pain, and suicidal thoughts.
Many people who
struggle with suicidal
thoughts feel like they
are alone. You would be
surprised by how much
the Bible talks about
suicide.
Isaiah 41:10
10 So do not fear, for I am with
you; do not be dismayed, for I am
your God. I will strengthen you and
help you; I will uphold you with my
righteous right hand.
The Rich Young Man (Mt 19:16-21; see
Mk 10:17-22; Lk 18: 18-23)
“Now someone approached (Jesus) and said,
“Teacher, what good must I do to gain eternal
life?” He answered him, “Why do you ask me
about the good? There is only One who is
good. If you wish to enter into life, keep the
Commandments.”
One of those Commandments are:
The 5th Commandment: You shall not kill
“Human life is sacred because from the beginning
it involves the creative action of God and it remains for
ever in a special relationship with the Creator, who is the
sole end. God alone is the Lord of Life from its
beginning untils its end; no one can under any
circumstance claim for himself the right directly to
destroy an innocent human being”
- Catechism of the Catholic Church
We find a sense of
fulfillment and freedom
in loving our family,
preparing well for an
exam, or listening to a
friend with a
problem…
“If you’re looking for a sign not to kill yourself…
 If you’re thinking about suicide and looking for a sign to stay
alive, consider this ---Whether you realize it or not, you have
the opportunity to make a positive difference in
this world. Somebody out there can benefit from
your unique talents and gifts. Sometimes all you may
need to keep going is a simple sign letting you know that
someone cares and wants you to keep living.
“Place your hand over your heart, can you
feel it? That is called purpose. You’re alive
for a reason so don’t ever give up.”

 While your heart is still beating you have

time to explore what your life purpose
could be and find happiness.
St. Teresa of Avila
 “God’s interest in
myself is a billion times
deeper than my own
interest in myself. I
could throw myself
away. God could never
do so.”
