CURRENT STATE: 26.5% OF THE POPULATION IN TAI HANG ARE RETIRED, AND 41% OF THE
POPULATION IN TAI HANG ARE AGED 60+. MOST ELDERLY LIVE IN 1/F AND 2/F BECAUSE
THEY HAVE PHYSICAL DIFFICULTIES IN CLIMBING STAIRS. THIS DISCOURAGES THE
ELDERLY TO GO OUTDOORS & THEY FEEL ALIENATED BY THE COMMUNITY.

GOAL : MAKING THE LIFE OF ELDERLY EASIER, AND CONNECTING THEM BACK INTO THE
COMMUNITY.

THEME A: LONELINESS, TOGETHERNESS AND INTERGENERATIONAL LIVING
Elderly acts an essential role in passing on traditional value and continuing the fire dragon dance tradition in tai hang,
younger generation should show appreciation to their contribution in the community, by having an elderly-friendly living
environment. We priorities the living standard of the elderly to allowing higher mobility and more active communication
among generations e.g. using bridges to connect different common shared spaces, so elderly are encouraged to go outside
and playing an active role.

THEME B: LIVE, LEARN, WORK, COLLABORATION: SOCIAL CAPITAL AND UPSKILLING

After studying the waste circulation and sequence, we found out that there is active participation by the elderly in repairing
and reusing items trashed by the local residents. The elderly that are participating in the recycling system all collaborate with
each other, and are great friends, to fulfill the one task of making trashed items useable again. This gives us the idea that
the elderly could be yearning for playing an active role in the society, but struggle to find the space or purpose to leave their
dwellings.

THEME C: PRESERVATION
Fire dragon cultural performance centre and car repairing industry:
Provide a space to increase interaction for routine dragon dance rehearsal training, dragon making. Elderly able to pass on
traditional skills and handcraft, thus achieving intergenerational engagement. Also, preserving the car repairing industry in
Tai Hang, like car maintenance, car wash, car painting, would help with increasing elderly participation in and interaction in
community

THEME D: CULTURE AND PUBLIC SPACE

Tai Hang was formed by Hakka family, where the neighbours are families, no matter young or old their do daily task tgt eg: dining/
washing. However, the community ties has been broken up by the gentrification/ modernisation...we want to bring the old community by
creating space that link elderly daily task and the younger activities....eg: Making parks in different levels for younger ppl playing around
meanwhile providing friendly common space for elderly to do their house work e.g Laundry Area
