Function
Calculus
A branch of mathematics that tackles the
topics about rates of change and dimensions.

Limits
- A fundamental concept of Calculus.
- The link between the gap of Algebra and
Calculus.
Limits of a Function
Limits of a function
It is describes/study the behaviour of the
function as it approaches or get closer to
a specific value.

 - In symbol of limits, we write this as where L

is the limit of the function f of a single
variable x as a x approaches c. we read this as
“ the limit of f(x) as x approaches c is L.
Example 1:

TABLE OF VALUES
X f(x) X f(x)
3 6 5 8
3.2 6.2 4.8 7.8
3.4 6.4 4.6 7.6
3.6 6.6 4.4 7.4
3.8 6.8 4.2 7.2
LEFT RIGHT

  li 𝑚 ( 𝑥 + 3) =7
𝑥 → 4
Example no.2

X f(x) X f(x)
1 1 3 9
1.2 1.44 2.8 7.84
1.4 1.96 2.6 6.76
1.6 2.56 2.4 5.76
1.8 3.24 2.2 4.84
LEFT RIGHT

  lim 𝑥2 = 4
𝑥 →2
Example 3:

x f(x) x f(x)
3 4 5 3
3.2 4.2 4.8 2.8
3.4 4.4 4.6 2.6
3.6 4.6 4.4 2.4
3.8 4.8 4.2 2.2
LEFT RIGHT

  = Does Not Exist ( DNE )

Take note:

If x approaches c from the left If x approaches c from the right

  lim 𝑓 ( 𝑥 )= 𝐿
𝑥 →𝑐

If and only if
Limit of a function at c v.s value of a function at c

  lim 𝑓 (𝑥 )
𝑥 →𝑐
  𝑓 (𝑐 )

 li
𝑚 ( 𝑥+ 3)=7
𝑥→4

 lim 𝑥2 = 4  𝑓 ( 𝑐 ) =4
𝑥 →2

 lim 𝑓 (𝑥 )=𝐷𝑁𝐸  𝑓 ( 𝑐 ) =6
𝑥→ 4
2
 li 𝑚 (3 𝑥 − 3 )= ¿  li 𝑚 (5 𝑥 +3 )=¿
𝑥→4 𝑥→3
