GUIDING PRINCIPLES
kanilang kustombre o kultura (culture) Hal.
Sa atin we raise our right hand to swear! Peks
man, cross my heart!
GENESIS 24
1

To Find a Godly Mate, One Must Seek the
Counsel of Parents and Godly Mentors
Parents and godly mentors must be
involved
God may not be calling you to allow your
parents or spiritual mentors to pick your
spouse; however, a wise person will keep
them highly involved in the process.
One of the problems with the modern
dating culture is that it is commonly done
apart from godly counsel. The two date by
themselves, often without the benefit of
the parents’ or godly mentors’ knowledge,
wisdom, and insight. Then the two just
show up one day and say, “I’m in love!” or
even worse, “I’m engaged!”
When Isaac is getting
married there is a team effort
between his father (parents),
Eliezer (church), Isaac,
Rebekah and her family and
most of all, God
Abraham and Isaac
Eliezer, not blood related but
treated as part of family
Abraham accepts the fact that his time for making such a
provision is needed-to find a partner for his son
• Abraham is actively involved not only Isaac
• Abraham is careful about the family and background from
whence his son’s wife is to spring
• Abraham recognizes the importance of binding men by a
sense of religious fear and duty to follow the principles of
God
• Abraham’s prudent precautions.
• Both Abraham and his servant regard the commitment in
which they are now engaged as essentially connected with
the covenant of God with Isaac and his heirs. They look
upon the arrangement of this marriage as an important step
in the way of the fulfilment of the covenant. And hence, by
an appeal to the covenant and to its seal, they hallow it.
Read the story of Eliezer in Genesis 24. Pay careful attention to his
actions:
•Accepted his assignment (v. 3, 9)
•Considered other alternatives (v. 5)
•Committed to the master’s instructions (v. 9)
•Made a plan and presented it to God (v. 12-14)
•Asked for guidance (v. 12-14)
•Remained flexible, allowed room for God to work (v. 12-14)
•Watched and waited (v. 21)
•Received God’s answer with thanks (v. 26)
•Refused delay (v. 56)
•Completed the plan (v. 66)

The events in this chapter involve the faith of Abraham but also the faith
of:
•His servant: He asked for God’s guidance in leading him to Abraham’s
relatives.  He specifically asked God to reveal which girl to choose in the
way she would offer to water his camels at a well (verses 12-21).  He also
faithfully and accurately repeated what God had done and gave glory to
God.  His faithful account to  repeated this to both Rebekah’s family and
later to Isaac (verses 33-49 and then verse 66) in ways that convinced
them of God’s plan.
•His relatives: Bethual (Abraham’s nephew and Rebekah’s father) and
Laban (Abraham’s great-nephew and Rebekah’s brother) in believing the
account of events as shared by Abraham’s servant, being obedient to God’s
will and entrusted Rebekah with him (verses 50-51).
•Rebekah: She recognised God’s hand in this incident and was willing to
leave her family, travel to a strange land and marry Isaac (verses 55-61)
•Isaac: He consented to his father’s choice and married Rebekah.  He loved
Rebekah. (Genesis 24:62-66)

THE WISDOM OF

WAITING
Song ‘Isang Linggo’ng Pag-ibig’
1. To confirm the feelings you have-
many times the love we feel is more of
the emotional aspect only-there must
be an intellectual aspect as well
Ex. There was girl who told me that she
is really in love with her boyfriend
-ilang taon mo na siya kilala? 2 weeks
-san kayo nagkita? Hindi pa nga kasi sa
FB lang
People are confused with love and
dependency needs. What is that?
All of us have needs-need to be loved, to
belong, to be important
May mga tao na lumaki kulang sa
pagmamahal-ex. Un sa broken home-
kahit anu pang gawin natin may kulang
na agad-you are looking for love-but
many times in the wrong place or timing!
Ex. Sa work may lalaki nagpapakita ng
pag care sayo-kung gusto mo ng tulong
sabihin mo lang-binabati ka, pinupuri at
nag message sayo!
Tapos sasabihin mo sa kasama mo-alam
mo in love ako!

You are in love with the
good feelings created
by your needs being
met but you’re not in
love with the person

Spend time in
knowing the person

Spend time in
knowing the person
and the family
The family is a big influence to the
person- values, yun mga kalakaran,
