NANOCHEMISTRY

 Nanochemistry is the combination of chemistry and nanoscience.

 Nanotechnology is the design ,characterization ,production and application of structures ,devices and
systems by controlling shape and size at nanoscale.

 The prefix ‘nano’ is derived from the Greek word dwarf.

 1nm=10^-9m

PROJECT OVERVIEW

BIOLOGICAL SYNTHESIS OF SILVER

NANOPARTICLES USING VITIS VINIFERA
ABSTRACT

 Green synthesis of silver nanoparticles using grapevine(vitis vinifera) fruit extract is reported in this
study. Silver nanoparticles are synthesized and the color change is noted at different intervals of time.
The influence of nature and amount of fruit extract as well as the silver ion precursor solution were
also studied. It is observed that both these parameters play a vital role in controlling the nature of
silver nanoparticles formed.
PREPARATION OF GRAPE FRUIT EXTRACT
EXPERIMENTAL SECTION

 AgNP’s were synthesized by adding 1ml each of this extract to 10ml of 1mM AgNO3 solution.
 The reaction mixture was kept undisturbed till the colour changed into reddish brown indicating
the formation of AgNP’s.
 The reaction was carried out at room temperature.
 The effect of the concentration of the precursor solution and the plant extract were carried
out.1,2,3,4 and 5ml of grape fruit extract were added to separate test tubes containing 10ml of
1mM AgNO3 solution. Similar procedures was repeated with 5 and 10mM silver nitrate
solutions.
 AgNPs formed were properly covered and stored.
Before adding silvernitrate solution At the time of addition of 5mM silver nitrate After 24hrs of addition of silver nitrate
CONCLUSION

Stable silver nanoparticles were synthesized using grapevine extract which acts as both reducing
and stabilizing agent following green route without the use of any synthetic reagents. Concentration
the fruit extract as well as silver nanoparticles formed. Grape fruit extract didn’t gave a sudden
formation of silver nanoparticles. It took 1 hours to form AgNPs with 1mM concentration of silver
nitrate solution and with increase in concentration of silver nitrate solution(10mM) there is a
decrease in the time for the formation of silver nanoparticles due to the enhanced availability of
Ag+ ions.
