What is Chlor-Alkali
 The chlor alkali process involves the
electrolysis of (NaCl solution or brine) in a
membrane cell.
 Electrolysis is the process of using
electricity to split water into hydrogen
and oxygen. This reaction takes place in a
unit called an electrolyzer.
 A DC current is passed through the cell.

There are three products that are;

Sodium Hydroxide(NaOH)
chlorine gas (Cl2)
 hydrogen gas(H2)
NaOH(Caustic Soda)

Installed Capacity of 630 MTPD, with environment

free membrane technology.
o 32% Caustic Soda Liquid with production
capacity of 620MTPD
o 50% Caustic Soda Liquid with production
capacity of 580MTPD
o 98% Caustic Soda Flakes with production
capacity of 220MTPD.
Chlorine Gas Production
Stoichiometrically,

For 01 MT of Caustic Soda (NaOH), 0.8875 MT of

Chlorine Gas and 0.025 MT Hydrogen gas is
Produced.
In This Way,

426 MT/day Chlorine Gas is Produced against the

existing
Caustic Soda Production of 480 MT/day.

acid, 3960 MTPA for glycerin and 6600 MTPA for
stearic acid. Capacity of soap chips production is

Expansion of Coal Fired Power Plant
in electrolysis, a direct electric current is used
to drive the non-spontaneous chemical
reaction. The direct current helps to deposit the
cations in the cathode and the anions in the
anode. Thus, in the electrolysis process, the
direct current of constant magnitude is used.

But if we pass an ac current the polarity of the

electrodes will be continuously changing and
the ions will not be attracted toward any
particular electrode resulting in no ionization.
