RECYCLING E-WASTE FOR
GENERATING POWER
DAY1 INTRODUCTION
 Unwanted obsolete or unusable electronic and
electrical products are commonly reffered to as
‘electronic waste, e-waste, e-scarp ,or as Waste
Electrical and Electronic Equipment.

 Rapid changes in technology, changes in media,

falling prices of electronic gadgets, and
developing new electronics and discarding old
one’s , lead to an ever increasing load of e-
waste.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
Itis estimated that global (2009) e-waste
generation is growing by about 40million
tones a year.
Estimated e-waste generation by india
(2012) -8lakh tones.
10 States contribute to 70% of the total e-
waste generated in the country.
While 65 cities generate more than 60%
of the total e-waste in India.
E-waste Categories
These can be categorized into 3 main parts:-

Large household Information and Consumer electronics

appliances communication
technology equipments

Refrigerators Computers Toasters

Electric radiator Laptops Coffee Machine
Freezers Computer Accessories Old Clocks
Microwaves Printers Watches
Electric heating Hair dryer
appliances
SOLUTION
o Re-evaluate. Do you really need that extra
gadget? Try finding one device with multiple
functions.
o Extend the life of your electronics-Buy a case,
keep your device clean, and avoid overcharging
the battery.
o Buy environmentally friendly electronics. Look for
products labeled Energy Star or certified by the
Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool
(EPEAT).
o Donate used electronics to social programs-and help
victims of domestic violence, children safety initiatives,
environmental causes, and more.
How can we achieve this?
 Cellphones are designed to run on a
battery for longer period of time.
 Uses approx 2 to 6 watts when charging.
 E waste can generate electricity
Chemicals such as Lead, Mercury,
Cadmium etc.
 PVCMFCs(Microbual Fuel Cells)
converts Chemical energy into electrical
energy
PROCESS
PRODUCT
 Not enough consumers understand that environmental
risk, but many of them also don’t seem to recognize
something else used electronics have a lot of inherent
value that we don’t realize.
 The vast majority of electronics can be recycled, and
the items within them that can be recovered include
plastic, steel, aluminum, copper, gold, silver, and other
precious metals.
 The product which can be thought of is - ebins for each
house and their e waste to be utilised to give them
power supply for the amount of waste generated.
People should be given incentives for their less
waste generation. At an area point of view such
initiatives would go long way in spreading the
message of intelligent use of e waste.
Day 2

Extension Work
 It is an education which is stretched out in
villages and fields, for adults & children.
 People are motivated through a proper
approach to help themselves by applying
scientific skills in their home, farm, and
community living.
Video on Counselling on village area for
alcohol consumption will be played.

Day 3

Brainstorming session
 Brainstorming is a way to generate ideas
within a group setting.
 It is developed with the purpose to simplify
the process of generating and organizing
ideas and thoughts visually.
 Brainstorming aims to develop the broadest
possible rangeof creative options.
On day 3 we had a brainstorming session
where each groups were given a topic and based
on them, everyone had to present their ideas.
We were given the topic as “ACOUSTIC
PLANNING FOR COLLEGE BUILDING”.
 The way a room sounds—whether it is
reverberant or “dry”—is defined by the room’s
size, shape, and distribution of sound-
absorbing, reflecting, and scattering surfaces.
The larger a room is, the more reverberant it
tends to be. Conversely, the more sound-
absorbing materials there are in a room, the less
reverberant it will be.
Day 4 PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT
 Personality development is the development
of sequential pattern of behaviour and
attitudes that makes a person special &
different or distinctive than others.
 Good Personality skills are key to success in
any career.
 We had seen Personality of an individual can
be evaluated with help of Psychological
Tests such as WAT, TAT, SRT & SDT.
 Psychological tests under personality development
programme:-
➢ Thematic Apperception Test (TAT)
 The The Thematic Apperception Test, is a type of
projective test that involves describing ambiguous scenes.
 Popularly known as the "picture interpretation technique,",
or TAT, is a type of projective test that involves describing
ambiguous scenes.
➢ Word Association Test (WAT)
 It is one of the fourpsychological tests employed in
Phase 2 of their testing procedure to evaluate a candidate's
patterns of thought, personality, temperament,
achievements, failures and emotional responses based on
the principle of his/ her subconscious mind.

DAY 5 GAMING
On the 5 Day we played a treasure hunt
game in which Treasure Hunts help people
develop new skills and strengthen and
reinforce other skills such as leadership,
communication, and problem solving.
Treasure Hunts are a great exercise in
positive team building and a bit of fun
while learning or developing team building
skills in a positive, relaxed and
entertaining environment.
CONCLUSION
So, during this one week, we got to learn new
skills that can help us in future.
 The brainstorming session enlightened us and
made us thought about the topic where we
discussed about Acoustics.
 We got to learn new technologies that different
universities have started doing for the betterment
of the society like IIT Madras.
In personality development session we got learn
how to acquire communications skills, analytical
Skills, Critical thinking process,Decision making
skills, reducing negative thoughts etc.
