DISCIPLINE OF SOCIAL WORK

Introduction…
Social work is a practice-based profession and an academic
discipline that promotes social change and development, social
cohesion, and the empowerment and liberation of people. Principles of
social justice, human rights, collective responsibility, and respect for
diversities are central to social work. The aim in social work, as both a
professional activity and a discipline, is to promote wellbeing among
people and their communities.
SOCIAL WORK
The National Association of Social Workers (NASW, n.d.), defined
social work as the professional activity of helping individuals, groups or
communities enhance or restore their capacity of their personal interaction
with their environment and creating societal conditions beneficial to the
mission.
SOCIAL WORK
Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), as cited in Cox
& Pawar, 2006) defines social work as a practical profession designed at
helping people addresses their problems and matching them with the
resources, they need to lead healthy and productive lives.
